This case has been on the works for almost 8 years, it’s just hitting news now for obvious reasons.

For those that aren’t up to the news in Spain: the current party in government is ridden with corruption cases, two of the number 2 of the party had to quit or being force to quit.

Important context. This article is about past corruption of the formerly-ruling-but-now-opposition party (PP) who were in charge before the current ruling coalition party (PSOE).

PP is “right” wing and PSOE is “left” wing (current party leading a coalition of right parties -PNV- far right parties - Junts - and left parties - Sumar, Podemos - and others). They vote the same stuff on European Union so I don’t think there is much difference anymore.

It’s just crazy it takes 8 years to process this case and it’s not over yet and they do it now? At the lowest point of the current government? Too oportunistic, almost as if they had it “on hold” until it was needed.

In Spain we do a lot the “yeah these ones are corrupt but the other ones too!” which is a pointless debate, they both are corrupt and should be banned from politics.

I haven’t seen any thread on lemmy about the corruption of PSOE but I guess that’s my fault, I could have posted them.

Well, both main parties, center right, PP (the one referenced in the news) and center left (the opposite and current government) are a nest of rats taking all they can, nepotism, fraud, thieves… I’d say they both are center slightly leaning to each side just enough to divide the voters.

If you’d read rhe article, this is People’s party (PP), the right-wing one. These news show that there is corruption in PP as well, not just the left PSOE.

Just when Spain’s opposition People’s party thought it had the socialist government of Pedro Sánchez on the ropes over a series of corruption scandals, it has been hit by a controversy of its own over alleged trafficking of influences by Cristóbal Montoro, the former finance minister.
