Iceland’s broadcaster RÚV will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 due to Israel’s participation. The decision was made at a meeting of the RÚV board 10 December 2025, 17:27 CET The board of the Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has decided not to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna.
In a press release, RÚV explains that Iceland will not take part in next year’s contest due to Israel’s confirmed participation:
– It is clear from the public debate in this country and the reaction to the EBU’s decision made last week that there will be neither joy nor peace regarding RÚV’s participation in Eurovision. It is therefore RÚV’s decision to inform the EBU today that RÚV will not participate in Eurovision next year.

Germany and Austria have already said they would not participate if Israel was excluded from participation. So it stands to reason that they are not going to boycott the Eurovision now that Israel is allowed to participate. Belgium was on the fence about participating, but they have since come out that they will be participating regardless of Israeli participation.
The only countries that have thusfar said they are not participating are Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Slovenia and the Netherlands.

Disgusting that the former Nazi countries decide it’s more important to not hold a country accountable for genocide…
If I got a cent for every time Germany backed a Holocaust, I would have two cents, which isn’t much but it’s still strange they did something like that twice.
They have historically been on the side of genocide. It was foolish to think they would change.
Isn’t Spain one of the major funders? That’s gonna hurt.
So is Germany. Either way they decided to go they would have lost a major funder.
And an Israeli company is the main sponsor for the event.
There’s red lines and then there are red lines. I doubt they would pull out if Israel is excluded.
