Iceland’s broadcaster RÚV will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 due to Israel’s participation. The decision was made at a meeting of the RÚV board 10 December 2025, 17:27 CET The board of the Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has decided not to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna.
In a press release, RÚV explains that Iceland will not take part in next year’s contest due to Israel’s confirmed participation:
– It is clear from the public debate in this country and the reaction to the EBU’s decision made last week that there will be neither joy nor peace regarding RÚV’s participation in Eurovision. It is therefore RÚV’s decision to inform the EBU today that RÚV will not participate in Eurovision next year.

It’s crazy that anyone at all wants to participate in this shit show
I hope that in the end no European countries end up participating.
Germany and Austria have already said they would not participate if Israel was excluded from participation. So it stands to reason that they are not going to boycott the Eurovision now that Israel is allowed to participate. Belgium was on the fence about participating, but they have since come out that they will be participating regardless of Israeli participation.
The only countries that have thusfar said they are not participating are Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Slovenia and the Netherlands.
Edit: Slovenia, not Poland
Ireland is also boycotting
Disgusting that the former Nazi countries decide it’s more important to not hold a country accountable for genocide…
If I got a cent for every time Germany backed a Holocaust, I would have two cents, which isn’t much but it’s still strange they did something like that twice.
They have historically been on the side of genocide. It was foolish to think they would change.
Isn’t Spain one of the major funders? That’s gonna hurt.
So is Germany. Either way they decided to go they would have lost a major funder.
And an Israeli company is the main sponsor for the event.
There’s red lines and then there are red lines. I doubt they would pull out if Israel is excluded.

Kudos for Iceland.
So far it’s a disgracefully short list of Western nations willing to do merely the easiest simplest most symbolic of actions imaginable of shunning the mass murdering new-Nazi state of Israel in a frigging song contest.
Remember this next time the regularly talk of “bringing Freedom and Democracy” is coming out from the usual French, British, German (to name just the 3 largest European nations by population in Eurovision) bullshit mongers and all other such sociopath warmongering politicians in the West.
Millions of WWII veterans are turning on their graves at how the NAZIs of this era own politicians in most of the West.
Why in the world is Israel included anyway? Europe ends at the Bosphorus Strait.
Because the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) that runs the Eurovision Song Context is "an alliance of public service media organisations“ that includes at least one Israeli broadcaster.
And Becau$e.
Wait till he hears that Australia is a contestant each year!
As an immigrant to Australia, who loves Eurovision from my past life in Europe, it’s actually pretty rational. There is a public broadcaster here, that has broadcasts for minority populations, called SBS. It has news broadcasts in Greek, Italian and other languages. It has European media. It is supposed to be an alternative voice but also to address the high immigrant population here that want news from home, going back to ww1. They have consistently broadcast Eurovision and only have been a competitor in recent years.
Still disappointed we’re not boycotting it over Israel’s participation.
I’m just listening to an interview with the head of the Icelandic National Broadcaster and their line is that this was “not a political decision” on their part, but because this programme item would no longer be the “joyful unifying event” that it has been and is supposed to be, so they’re not taking part. There is a bit of hand-washing going on, but they’re not really wrong either.
Down with israel!
I wonder if they’ll still hold semi-finals if this keeps on.
Bravo Iceland!
What isn’t exactly clear is if the channels in these countries are going to not broadcast the show as well as not sending a person to represent that country.
So is Eurovision going to not have an Icelandic singer or is it not even going to be broadcast there?
It seems that no decision has been made about whether to hold the usual preliminary local competition, and the media reports don’t even mention whether the finals will be shown.
I hope they just start a knockoff version with the non genocide supporter countries and see if that gets bigger over the years.
