Why has #Strava not embraced #ActivityPub? It doesn’t seem like at all a stretch to have the private/followers-only/everyone model map to strava.social fedi visibility.
For that matter, why aren’t #Komoot or #GarminConnect jumping on the opportunity? Seems like easy way to promote both fitness and their own apps.
Edit: 🧵
Why would they? What‘s in it for them?
This. This right here. For anybody to embrace anything they have to perceive and advantage to them to do so. If you can’t persuade them of such an advantage they won’t do it.
@osma @fediverse Unfortunately there’s no business advantage, and many disadvantages, in it for them. #ActivityPub means data portability, something that greatly weakens their hold on users 😕
Walled gardens are far more profitable than ActivityPub could ever be.

Ah, yes, Strava, the poster child of profitable walled gardens thriving because of their amazing social visibility.

@osma @fediverse those companyies do love their walled gardens.
Garmin is famous for building limited penetration walls.
I need a tool to make my fitness details portable.@osma
Love all three, would be great but doubt it will happen.
