Defederate from the tankie bullshit and I’ll absolutely pitch in. But until then, I’m not paying to have a bunch of kids shit all over every discussion had.

Why can’t you just block the instances you don’t like on your preferred client? That’s what I do, and I don’t see comments from any user account on any instance I block. I think defederation should be reserved only for the most absolute eggregious problem instances. Instances the CP spammers were from, if you were around for that in the early days here, for example.

As long as they aren’t spamming CP and brigading to vandalize posts and stuff, I don’t think any instance should be defederated, even if I dont agree with the users there.

Like, I find Blahaj instance users generally annoying. I have never had a positive interaction I can remember with a Blahaj instance user. I can remember quite a few negative ones though. But I don’t think Blahaj should be defederated. I just blocked the instance on my client and now I don’t see any of their posts or comments (except via modlog, mod view, etc), they can still access communities here, and users here can still access communities there. Wins all around. My personal opinion shouldn’t be a reason to remove everyone elses access to an instance they might like.

I did block it. But you see…. Blocking the instance doesn’t stop the cretins from posting their bullshit all over .world. Hence… I won’t pay to support an instance that allows that trash to post their propaganda.

Ok, well I mean if its blocked for you, doesn’t getting mad about it defeat the purpose of blocking it?

“I blocked my ex, but I just know they are talking to other people and that makes me mad.” I know it’s maybe not the same level of severity, but I mean, what’s the point of blocking if you don’t move on after?

I don’t think you understand how federated instances work. Maybe look into that.

Don’t forget, you can block communities and users. This is a a solution to your problem. It may not be the quickest or the most effective, but it’s better than not doing anything in your own power to do so.

Oh I know. But the onus shouldn’t be on the myriad people that have asked them to defederafe from that trash. Many insurances have e already done it- .world is just too chickenshit to lose the content.

And what quality content it is.

I can respect that opinion, and I will say… I have a number of people blocked. It’s easy to do.

Speaking only for us here on Lemmy.World, we try to ban people who break the Lemmy.World ToS, which include issues like bigotry, incivility, spam, things like that. Not necessarily opinions with which we might disagree or find unpleasant. I think if I allowed myself to ban anyone with whom I disagreed, I would find myself quickly de-adminned, and rightfully so - it would kill the fedverse.

There are other tools for dealing with, well, tools. Including blocking on a personal level, or having community rules in place that make sense for that community that can help create spaces that are more comfortable to be in.

So while I agree with your sentiment, understanding the roles of the instance admins vs community moderators or individual choices - that’s why I set up a monthly donation before I became an admin. Because Lemmy provides me with good content and communities.

Everyone is absolutely free to make their own choices. And this reply is not an attempt to beg you to donate.

It’s propaganda. And it should be banned for that alone. They play by the rules, they come they antagonize and they report people for losing their cool. They’re trolls.

There’s nothing good that comes from them.
