Christian democracy is the political culture that has been the driving force behind European integration. Yet, according to Martino Comelli, it has also facilitated the democratic backsliding of some countries of central and east Europe by providing an illiberal political toolbox of narratives and policies
hmm.
In France, we like to give lessons in secularism to the whole world. It is not here that a president would take an oath on the Bible! The problem is that this great national narrative is sometimes accompanied by monumental hypocrisy. In reality, there is nothing particularly neutral or exemplary about the system in place in France.

France is not really different from other European countries when it comes to religion. And often “laicité” is used to enforce an “identity” politics based on Christianity. Like, Sarkozy and his bullshit “Loi interdisant la dissimulation du visage dans l’espace public” (law forbidding the veil)? Or the early debate about burkini that is on ALL the medias?
But tell yourself that christianism has long gone extinct in France, sure, lol.
