A poorly explained update to its terms of service has pushed WhatsApp users to adopt alternative services

This language has appeared in many articles. Perhaps the poorly explained part is that the damage was already done around 2016 in terms of linking phone number to FB advertising platform

The reaction of users was quite predictable.

I personally use Element but I think recommending Signal is a great step forward for the average person.

Great option. Session is even more private, but a bit laggy. What’s missing is end-to-end encrypted voip.

I agree the only thing with Signal is it needs a phone number, but the protocol that is solid. Its more practical to have people switch to signal from whatsapp in my opinion

Signal is working on a solution for that, I believe, I read something about Usernames, but I can be wrong…

Is the only advantage that you don’t need a phone number? If so, how does it compare against Wire (which is IMO a nearly perfect solution)

Delta Chat is an EMail client with steroids that aims to build a specification (Chat over IMAP) to adapt the infraestructure even more.

Thanks, got it. Is a good idea. I’ll start following it.

Do all the email servers have to make changes to support it? Dies the IMAP standard have to change to support it?
