They make this noise and another raspy noise, a bit like a cat hissing, when I walk past a tree behind home with my cat. They don’t seem happy about the cat being there, despite him being 21, half blind and deaf, and not even noticing them. They’ve even thrown acorns at us.

Depends if they have him on a leash. Best to leave cats indoors.
He’s not on a lead, but he’s old, deaf, and blind, so he couldn’t catch an animal if it was right in front of him.
We go for a walk with the kids and dog, and he follows. Cats do what they want.
