As someone thinking of doing a PhD, I want those dirty foreigners and their ivy league diplomas out! They are stealing my jobs!

Honestly this whole thing is disgusting to me in a way. As if current European researchers couldn’t do just as good as the US if given the same levels of funding. This is almost certainly a case of “let’s flood the job market and lower how much we have to pay researchers”

people moved to US, to get a better income. now even that is threatened, so they probably will take a pay cut in the EU just to be safe from the GOP.

Jokes aside, I think it is more that they want to attract the really good people. There already is a complete power imbalance in many science fields, and in applied fields, they will still have to compete with industry jobs.

yea, i think its too heavily geared towards scientists only, and not the technicians, bs holders, MS holders who are doing the majority of the lab work anyways. I dont know if thats what you meant.

but its like that in the states, also i believe its very gatekept because they dont want to hire to many people in research areas otherwise scientist might lowers thier already stingy income. so if you look at job listing you can see that they purposely add many skills or years to discourage people from applying, of course they are also ignoring applications too.

certain parts of health maybe slightly better, like nursing, CLS(although its pretty competitive to even get into the grad program). cant say the same for MED schools though.

its pretty hard to get a job, even if nobody is stealing jobs in stem. Its the employers that are doing that, trying to hire as little as possible.
