If your mental capacity is reached by checking your surroundings while all the traffic is going roughly the same speed as you, then no way youre capable of handling “no speed limit” where everyone is driving to their liking.

It’s not just you who’d be suddenly free to do whatever they want, but everyone else too.

Claiming “I know better what’s best for me” is the best sign of someone who absolutely doesn’t.

  • I think his argument is valid, just as yours is.

You’re right it’s not only the US. But he’s also right that phones are not the only reason / common denominator. Basically every country has a rigged economy and a two class justice system - some more, some less. But the ruling class secured their privileges everywhere. Our planet’s doom looming over the horizon is also a global phenomenon.

What unrestricted access to the internet is doing: it’s making everyone much more aware of those things, their global scale. Everyone gets a feeling of how bad it is because there seems to be no greener pasture anymore.

  • Never thought of this, you’re not wrong.

On the other side her dying because she lost the will to life… is kind of a good explanation for an unlikely death in such an advanced civilization.

Obviously they could simply keep her alive despite any actual medical condition. So what else could she die of… except for a spiritual (I don’t know a better description) reason.

Kind of a “so bad it’s actually good” explanation.
