Another week, another “What are you playing this w https://beehaw.org/post/28519342

Game nights and social fulfuilment still builds community :)

I get it. I’m much less active then I was too. Just gotta find ways to improve our local community, and not be the resistance for the new energy.

Not if you support and vote for your local Mandami. Theyre out there, just needing the right local conditions: create them. Get 3-5 friends and take over your local democratic organization

What a garbage take lmfao. I mean sure, every headline of any article you’ve ever read is clickbait.

The headline of the linked article is a rhetorical question, as the article goes on to answer it in the first sentence of the article.
Fans in the region say references to X-Men character Mystique’s lesbian relationship have been censored in ‘Marvel’s Wolverine.’

Considering the first sentence of the linked article is:
Fans in the region say references to X-Men character Mystique’s lesbian relationship have been censored in ‘Marvel’s Wolverine.’
I’d say, no. A hook? Sure.

ABC (not to be confused with me) rn:

In a world where when someone says that theyre conservative it’s because they’re racist, misogynistic, a literal Nazi, transphobia, homophobic, islamaphobic, antisemitic and/or otherwise bigoted - even though they might say it’s because they like fiscal responsibility or that they support business.

Sorry, what’s the difference?

Yea, you’re right I should’ve said 10-30 years ago. But even that, its all a slippery slope. Democracy takes a lot of work.
Here are two milestones on our descent.
Under Obama:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_United_v._FEC
A bit further back:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriot_Act
The patriot act is one that’s really been echoed in Europe recently with the age verification stuff.
Electing far right leaders is a sign of what might come. And if your response to it is, “our elected far right politicians don’t shit themselves on camera, we’re better than America” then you’re going down the same path we did. When the Patriot Act passed, critics were shutdown, because this is America, and we’re the righteous ones, our leaders are elected and want to see our country succeed. If you time traveled to 2001 and warned people of everything that Trump is doing now, they wouldn’t believe you.
We’re not saying America is better. We’re not saying that we have the answers. We’re saying that your path looks familiar.

When we were degrading our democracy 10-20 years ago, like Europe is today, our leaders weren’t shitting on camera either.

I do wish we were back at the point you are at.
A lot of the European news I’ve noticed echoes some of the points we were at 10-20 years ago. It’s a lot easier to fight back against at the point you’re at, but it’s also a bit harder to convince people that it is problematic.
When we’re ready to start making our country better again, it’ll be good to have role models. And if we don’t make our country better, I don’t want to drag Europe down with us.
We Americans may be a special kind of stupid, but if you love your country, you should recognize that it can still happen anywhere.

I think one of the first ways is to show up. Like if a place is hosting a drag show, recognize that they’ve lost customers, so now you need to show up for the drag shows AND during regular hours.
If its somewhere you want to be a third space, then be friendly. Engage in conversation. If you’ve been going for a while, welcome new people to the space.
Third spaces don’t have to be businesses, they can be parks, libraries, and the likes. Those are a bit easier to start your community in. Make a post on a local Facebook page, “I’m going to be at this park doing this. Every Sunday at 1PM, join me.” Then show up. The first event will likely only have 2 or 3 people show up. That’s normal. Keep it up, be consistent, and don’t get down when no one shows up, do it again. People will come when they realize they’ve missed out. Make sure people know they missed out, take pictures, make it look busy.
Lastly, I think non-profits, like animal shelters, political organizations, etc. need to be opening reasons for people to visit them. Animal shelters, I think should open pet stores or have a space for dog training - so that local dog owners can meet other dog owners and raise their dogs better. Political parties should have bars/coffee shops so that people have a social third space to be, talk, and advance their party.

Thank you for the clarification in the spoiler. It makes your argument way stronger.
We’ve lost organizational power in this country because the pedophile class has been destroying even slightly liberal third spaces. Christian coffee shops talks politics everyday, no one bats an eye. But god forbid a business support a queer person, then everyone will boycott that business because theyre doing politics.
Find your local third spaces that kinda support you, and build a community of spenders and force the third space to support you more.

You’re right that grassroots is the answer. But voting is still part of the solution.
We’re needing broad change, everywhere. Don’t want Flock in your neighborhood? City council. Don’t want a data center in your neighborhood? City council.
City council is a body of what 7 people? That can immediately impact your daily life. If your town is banning Flock, and data centers, and doing a good job, then your neighboring towns will too.
And it really doesn’t take that many people to sway the outcome of a city council election.
But here’s where it gets scary: the pedophile elite has been destroying liberal leaning 3rd spaces for the past 10 or more years, while propping up right wing third spaces. Every single Christian coffee shop is a breeding ground for Nazism. The challenge in getting a city council that works for you, is creating a community that works for you.
And every single person that goes to the Christian coffee shop will stop supporting the local business that supports the queer community, “because they don’t do politics.”
Vote from the ground up. Promote local leaders. And while you’re voting for them, vote in a way that will at least delay fascism till your local leader has the experience to compete with the shitheads like Schumer.

Vibe coding and AI slop is bringing back havktivism. Hell yea.

But interestingly, not personal gain
Oh lol
