I don’t want Apple to win, but I DO want Musk to lose.
I don’t think I’m quite the target of this comment because I don’t pretend it doesn’t exist or that it isn’t something that people use or care about. But I do avoid using AI for anything that matters… like at all. I also refuse to use chatgpt or any of the commercial offerings. I do play around with locally hosted stuff because the tech is interesting, but there is no way I would ever put my faith in it. Also, my feelings toward the biggest players in the industry are at best “disgust”. So I don’t want to use their products.
So my question then how exactly can I be in the room to help shape decisions? The only two levers I have to pull is whether or not to send those companies money, and whether to even use the free services or not.
What exactly am I supposed to do? The companies will just make whatever models and tune them however they feel will achieve whatever goals they have regardless. And presently, their goals do not align with mine.
I won’t be surprised when we are fucked. I promise you that. I can see that coming. But I feel utterly powerless to stop the tech fascists.
The war thunder forums are going to go HARD for the next 4 years.
“Let’s set aside the obvious conflict of interest and ethics questions at play here —” You can’t, and you shouldn’t.
"We can even skip over the security implications pointed out by a cybersecurity expert in the Times piece. " You can’t, and you shouldn’t.
“As a practical matter alone, there’s no obvious reason to add another ISP in order to improve Wi-Fi coverage” It doesn’t take an entire paragraph to figure out what’s going on here let alone an entire article.
As someone from north of the USA border… PLEASE stop this man from stealing your country, Americans.
Finally! This is what true freedom of speech looks like. Imagine being so free to say things and NEVER have to hear anyone oppose you.
Or go try the demo. It IS eerily uncanny. It’s not at the point where it would fool you for long, but it’s close enough to get caught up in it from time to time.
I just wish LLM felt better to say than AI. Like AI just rolls off the tongue but LLM feels like a mouthful. That doesn’t help :(
This feels like a “WATER IS WET!” type situation with the exception that a large part of the population would end up being shocked and appalled by the idea of water being wet.
In a move that shocked absolutely nobody
Good.
I know I’m not good enough to win Reign of Will: Will Defends the Extreme Boss Killer Belt Against All Challengers, Loser! Land Defense Benefit Brawl, but I will be cheering all participants of Reign of Will: Will Defends the Extreme Boss Killer Belt Against All Challengers, Loser! Land Defense Benefit Brawl from the sidelines! Good luck out there!
That’s def a way to get dumber tvs! Though I’m fine buying a smart tv as long as I can keep it 100% isolated from the internet and just use the hdmi inputs and pretend the smart stuff isn’t there. idk if they have gotten quite so malicious yet that you can’t even plug one in without it demanding to be connected to the internet and forcing you to agree to a eula. Roku comes close if I remember. But those shenanigans happened because tv’s were connected and downloaded an update. So whatever is cheaper for the features I care about and I think digital signage you pay a premium for. But I won’t count it out! Thank you
I want to give you two likes.
What the heck am I going to do when win10 stops getting security patches? I really wish Valve would open up SteamOS to desktops in a public and supported way. That kind of pressure from valve has forced MS to play nice to users in the past. Anyone remember MS demanding that all software for Win8 be sold through the MS store only? And Valve said, fine we’ll make our own OS, with blackjack! And Hookers! And steam machines became a thing. Noone bought them. But it didn’t matter. It was enough pressure for MS to open up to having 3rd party storefronts again. I feel like we need this again. Also, if linux played nice with anti cheat, and discord I would probably be fine ditching windows but as it stands I’d miss out on playing games with my friends.
Anyway. Privacy Nightmare AI tool bad.
I think people should be free to run instances how they want.
Yep! Like I said, a lot of the negativity is pretty justified. I just wanted to provide one positive for people to see.
There’s a lot of negativity here, and a lot of it is pretty justified. But I don’t hate the idea of paid mods. Like if there’s a way for authors like the ones the made Enderal or other really big mods to make some money off of it that’s really great. Is Bethesda going to be fair about them? Probably not. Is Bethesda going to be competent with the system? Probably as competent as they are at anything else (derogatory).
But at least it’s a way that you can make some money back for your work where you don’t have to worry about chargebacks from trolls costing you more than the donations they were originally giving you. And this can be a pretty big problem for donation driven works. Someone donates $1, 200 times. Then charges them all back. Paypal charges you $15 processing fee for each chargeback. And you can contest it but who needs that? If Bethesda can be the entity brokering all of it, then they are the ones that take the chargeback risk.
So in theory, I don’t hate it. But it will all depend on the implementation and competency of Bethesda (not looking good here).
I’ve never considered the possibility of car mods existing! It looks pretty cool if you just want to go on a highway trip!
Good!
