Only private tracker I use is MyAnonymouse, they’ve got all the books/audiobooks anyone could ever need, which I have had a really hard time finding on public trackers. Their rules are super lenient as well.

Actually, that’s just near major roads. 80% of the US population live in cities or urban areas. Considering that these stroads are a standard feature of US urbanization, and can even be found near smaller towns, it would suggest that the vast majority of people in the US live near this type of road. I don’t have actual numbers because no one is collecting this data. But by presenting data that provides some level of tangential evidence, we can start to form a rough picture of the data we’re interested in.

Mate the argument isn’t that the entire US looks like this. I’ve been to all the US’s national parks, and a boatload of of state parks. I’ve lived in a small farming town with more cows than people. However, in terms of where the majority of people actually live in the US, this kind of road is very close by. I can’t find the numbers on what percentage live within a few miles of a freeway, but I’d guess it’s a majority. ~24% of people live within 500m of road that handles an average of 25,000 cars per day. Sure, in terms of space, the freeways are small, but people live near freeways. I’d argue that the sort of street in that picture is within 5-10 miles of pretty much everyone in the US.

They have a mode to turn off the creatures for exactly that reason. I haven’t tried it, but other than the spooky factor the creatures don’t add a ton to the game, so it probably wouldn’t lessen the experience. (There is a small thing, but it’d spoil some story elements if I were to say them here)

Yeah, back in my early pirate years as a teen, I downloaded a virus. I was able to sniff it out, and I deleted it. But after every restart the files came back. I eventually found that it had created a separate file that would run a script to check for the existence of the others, and replace them if they were ever removed. I tried to delete this file, and couldn’t; their safety measure was to have that file always be referenced by something so it was impossible to delete. File locksmith was what made it possible to remove, and tattled on what program (yet another part of the virus) was keeping it open.

You are also missing the huge advances they’ve made in their contributions to FOSS, like proton, FEX, arch, etc. Steam has done an insane amount of legwork to get Linux gaming off the ground. They are the one company that made migrating off of Windows and onto Linux a valid option for me, and a bunch of other folks. Linux was ~0.89% of their userbase in 2020, and since their contributions to these FOSS projects, it has gone up to 3.05%. That’s crazy, considering it had been at or below that 0.89% since 2016.

It’s common in big tech companies to have a small internal team that has the full-time job of contributing to the FOSS software they use. That is how this should have been handled. Google wants a new feature/bug squished? You’ve got your team that can make the change, that’s literally the whole point of FOSS.

I love the idea of smart glasses, and would happily buy them. However, it’d 1. Need to have 3rd party app support and 2. Be able to work without connecting to any tech company’s servers. I’ve gotten used to my android phone that doesn’t have google play services, and I’ll never go back to having a device that phones home without my permission. In a perfect world I’d like to have some FOSS firmware and OS to run on them, but I’d be willing to go without as long as I could disable traffic to all major tech company servers.

Coming from someone who primarily games on Mouse/Keyboard, controller just feels better, but Mouse/Keyboard shouldn’t ruin the experience at all.

I’ve used a definition of race that fits 4 of the 7 dictionary definitions that I’ve seen. Yes, I guess I’m not using the ones regarding ancestry and genealogy, but those just segment what a race is further. Under those definitions, “black” isn’t a race.

I understand the historical event you are referencing, and I understand that, in some places in the world, Irish immigrants weren’t part of the “true white” race until they became racist towards folks without white skin and became police. Some folks back in the day decided to categorize people by things they have in common. (e.g. physical attributes, geographic location, genetics) However, this doesn’t have any basis in science due to there being more genetic variation within the defined races than between them. Most biologists and anthropologists don’t accept race as a scientifically valid biological classification.

However, this definition of racist hasn’t been widely accepted, as it almost exists to prevent being able to say racism towards the “white” race exists.

If you think that it’s impossible to be racist towards a race that is all-encompassing like the “white” race, then, unless you’re using a different definition of racist, then if would be equally impossible to be racist towards the all-encompassing “black” race.

Taking your logic and applying it to this term that is widely accepted caloquially as a race, you end up being able to say that it’s “impossible to be racist against black people” which would be seen as a racist remark.

Yup. Linux + Nvidia is the problem here. I convinced my friend to move to Linux, explaining that all his favorite Steam games work on my Linux machine with no issues, just download and click play, tested it myself. Turns out, I don’t have an nvidia gpu, he does, and a lot of the games straight up don’t work, and the ones that do need at least one config change, if not more.

I have yet to have any issues on Steam myself when gaming with my Radeon card.
