Sometimes, I think about the fact that if I post something really useful here, our traffic’s still so comparatively small that it probably won’t come up in a search engine query.
But that’s the way I like it, baby - I don’t want to live forever.
So I’ve since quit, and I understand why even what I’m about to describe doesn’t exist anymore where I am, but right at the tail end of smoking indoors there were businesses/buildings doing totally walled off, wellish ventilated smoking areas. Those seemed ok to me, and when I (stupidly) took up smoking I was sad those were gone.
The only, and last, one I saw when I was a smoker was in an airport, which was an unexpected godsend because my fuck does it suck to be a smoker waiting for a flight.
(Yes, it’s a gross and deadly habit that’s also unhealthy and gross for the people around you and the employees who had to work in/clean such spaces, and it makes sense to have no smoking indoors).
45 and flight?
There’s a few people I know who use it for boilerplate templates for certain documents, who then of course go through it with a fine toothed comb to add relevant context and fix obvious nonsense.
I can only imagine there are others who aren’t as stringent with the output.
Heck, my primary use for a bit was custom text adventure games, but ChatGPT has a few weaknesses in that department (very, very conflict adverse for beating up bad guys, etc.). There’s probably ways to prompt engineer around these limitations, but a) there’s other, better suited AI tools for this use case, b) text adventure was a prolific genre for a bit, and a huge chunk made by actual humans can be found here - ifdb.org, c) real, actual humans still make them (if a little artsier and moody than I’d like most of the time), so eventually I stopped.
Did like the huge flexibility v. the parser available in most made by human text adventures, though.
Nah, and to be honest it threw me off to hear some people interpet it that way. It’s always meant “acknowledged” or “I agree, no notes” to me.
If I wanted to be rude I’d do this instead: 👍🙄
I’ve drank, and got drunk, at exactly one work function in my current capacity. The living hell that was a day of serious meetings with 3 hours of sleep and a wicked hangover/still being drunk has made all other functions water and bed by 9:30 affairs.
Luckily everyone in the meetings had either made the same mistake before, or were functioning alcoholics, so the fallout was just being a pile of misery.
If a VP decides to take everyone for drinks at a club after the official function, at absolute most show up to nurse one drink then leave. Do not be the last one out the door.
I have a soft spot for Crystal, in terms of the official series.
If we include rom hacks, Crystal Clear is great, and I’m really enjoying Pokemon Emerald Rogue these days.
I might be going to a mini Burning Man style event in May. Never been to a burn, or even a music festival, before.
It promises to be an interesting experience, one way or another. If nothing else, I like the idea of partying with a bunch of artsy weirdos off their tits for several days. We’ll see if I’ve aged out of that, lol.
That and, should I choose to prepare all of the necessary materials to pack in and out, I could do a temporary version of a dream I’ve had: hash and coffee club tent! 'Cause gifting cannabis products to adults is 100% legal here now (not that this would’ve been a barrier anyway, but still)!
I feel like we always have been - the Trudeau Sr. quote comes to mind:
Living next to you [The U.S.] is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is affected by every twitch and grunt.
Only more so now that said beast is trumpeting, stomping its feet and shitting everywhere.
If you’re not daily driving Arch, btw, did you even join Lemmy?
I know you’re not daily driving Arch because you didn’t mention it.
(Jokes, obvs. Congrats on the self-discovery!)
Give this a shot maybe? I know there’s some other archive collections as well you could try digging into.
The U.S. has some cool shit to see as a tourist - even aside from the obvious stuff (example: I really, really wanted to check out Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo Texas. It’s literally just a bunch of Cadillacs half-buried and absolutely crusted in spray paint).
But yeah, right now even the legit draws for tourism aren’t worth it. And there’s a scarily good chance it never will be again.
Real talk, there’s a lot of music from Quebec with French lyrics that slaps.
Lol, was waiting for this comment. DeX gang rise up.
(It is OKish)
Gimme an M! Gimme an L! Gimme a T!
What’s that spell?
I shoot birds at the airport.
You, my friend, need an adventure. Any adventure, even if it sounds small and dumb.
I creeped your post history (sorry) - did you end up taking that bus trip you talked about a few months back? If so, what was that like? If not, any reason why you feel you shouldn’t do it now (or soon)?
I’ve felt like you before, at least the way you’re describing it. My solution was mundane adventure - walk a stupid amount to a place you could easily get to by car. Strike up conversations with strangers by leaving your phone alone re: directions/things of interest/etc. unless absolutely necessary. Set yourself some boon to obtain - a beer at Pub X, a meal at place Y, whatever - and make the journey a little less convenient/a little more scenic than you might do by default.
The above isn’t for everyone, obvs, but take the idea of an adventure or ‘quest’ and see if anything strikes you. It can be as grand or mundane as you want it to be.
Just one option among others.
Probably - thought about it harder anyway (see: actually read stuff), and the closest you can probably get to what I was thinking about with your average smartphone is disconnecting and terminating all connections to the antennas.
Let’s be real, though - if I actually intended to use something like this, it’d for sure be something cobbled together using an SBC like the Pi Zero.
Not much of a gamer these days, but I love this format and what you are doing here. Keep it up!
