My principle is “One euro, for one hour”.
Does the game cost 40e? Am I unsure whether I’d enjoy the game for 40 hours? I’ll get it for free first. Does it stick for that 40 hours or more, or will I get sure enough while playing to play that 40 hours at least? OK, take my money. No? It gets forgotten in my folder, and probably deleted later.
I did count my likes from some top liked comments or posts of mine before. It kinda feels the same as karma, to me.
I’d say that people always find some way to get addicted to something, in whatever.
I think it was DOOM (Psychophobia mod over GZDoom).

Hmm. Depends probably on do you leave the knives out, have paper/cardboard/plastic knives or real fighter knives with the costume!
An easier Halloween costume is Ghostface. No trousers and a shirt/jacket but a robe.
My friend drew the outline of the knife he uses in the movie in cardboard and I added many layers, getting a nice, thicker cardboard knife!
Who is your favorite character?
Comfort zone is easy. You don’t need to think as much and it may be a stress-free area.
Outside the comfort zone is where you can learn new things of yourself. What you like, dislike, think about the world and things inside it. It might be stressful and scary there.
Too far outside the comfort zone may result in burnout or mental problems.

I don’t like or dislike those scenes any more or less than the rest of the movie. When concerning the movie’s plot - the torture you mentioned has a function that builds the character further in a certain direction. It also determines what will happen next. Just like what any other scene would do.
I also point out just in case that I don’t approve torture.
I try to watch the move annually!

Buying a (premium) service to get rid of something awful requires effort and resources.
Do you have the money? Do you get enough kicks out of the money you would be spending? Do you know the pros and cons of subscribing/going in a service (what will they provide for the money spent?)? Do you want to support the service - even so far to provide them money? You need to provide additional data of yourself to make the purchase and may even need to learn how to do it - are you ready for that?
Getting an (ad-blocking) extension to a browser to get rid of something awful requires effort and resources.
Do you know how to start using extensions in browsers and what to do if you need to troubleshoot them? Is it free (are paid extensions even a thing? I don’t recall seeing one)? Can you support someone you would want to support with a ad-blocker (some decent folks who make good content may be in need of the money they get from ads, but then again, there’s a chance you can send them money through other means)? Are you supporting a service that has an built-in feature that annoys you (in this case, providing ads for the users to see), endorsing such behavior (even more) even though you cannot see those ads yourself?
Both options may require research. Both options are influenced by other people and by their opinions. Both options have their pros and cons. Both options have consequences.

I don’t buy any subscriptions. I wouldn’t have the money for that and I have bad experiences of them.
I can support someone with a grateful comment or sharing their content to others.
I myself stick with the ad-blocking services.
But don’t let me influence you with what/how I do it 😉 Make up yer own mind and act accordingly.
I was pretty shook over one book I read, plunging me into sadness for about a week.

Then there are stat reductions. Less HP/mana/armor etc. Or, alternatively, you can take a value from a stat and add it to another/other stats.
I once checked out the damages done by different bullets in the original DOOM and with the console I “traded” bullets for others based on those values.

I haven’t tested these, but for ideation:
Factorio is fun for me until oil comes up.
I have managed to play further with the black market mod. I can make whatever item I want, sell enough of it and buy the things I want or need instead of making them myself.
Other mods add more powerful machines that make items much faster. I like to do manually stuff with one machine only, then swap to something else with the same machine and repeat the process.
