A functionial rocket is only half the story. You also need a spacecraft which can be integrated onto said rocket. ESA hasn’t had one of those since the ATV.
I post pictures with my other account @Deme@lemmy.world

Lunar rays are rarer than sunbeams, because the Moon is dimmer.

It’s called Multiple discovery. And there’s really no need for collective conciousness. People working with the same information will simply figure out the same solutions to the eqations.
My job is to do weather observations every half an hour, or when the situation changes drastically enough to warrant an update. I used to get a bit stressed out about noticing the clock approach one of the routine times while not at work (because that’s when I haven’t been keeping an eye on the sky so oh shit now I gotta figure it out fast!), but I think I’ve gotten mostly out of that pavlovian response. Many of my colleagues say that they also get this. But the phone alarm (a manufacturer default) that goes off at that time as a reminder definitely triggers it. Luckily I’ve only heard it like once or twice outside of work.

I think existence is preferable to nonexistence. Sure life sucks a lot, but then there’s also the beauty hidden all around us, which when revealed, reminds me that it’s good that I didn’t kms. Similarly, it makes me glad to have been born in the first place.

The world doesn’t run on renewables. If the energy mix contains even a bit of fossil fuels, then any extra demand props up fossil energy that could be shut down.

Sure, but as if the politicians in charge could think that far ahead :D

Israel needs that insecurity. They need enemies to unite against so that the country doesn’t fracture along the liberal/orthodox divide.

From the article:
In the last major heatwave in the region, in 2018, 750 people died early in Sweden alone, and scientists anticipate a similar toll once the data is processed.

X being bad is no argument against doing something (even a little) about a different bad thing Y. Fuck excessive flight travel and fuck generative AI. There’s no need to only pick one thing to hate.

Ah, whataboutism, how refreshing.

Ok, well in that case I guess we should just keep looking at those ugly as shit pixar-ish chipmunks. Maybe their cutesy faces will motivate someone of the 5k monthly visitors here to become the next unabomber who finally defeats Peter Thiel.
It’s just a single png. If somebody kicks up their feet and stops caring after getting the mods to change it, then do you honestly think that they could’ve gotten anything significant done in the first place?
how pretty the sky looks when I happen to notice it.
I second this one with every fibre of my being. Look at the sky every chance you get. Clouds are beautiful.
Photography also helped me learn to keep my eyes open for all the pretty sights around. There’s a lot more of those waiting to be witnessed out there than one might think.

None of that means that what OP is proposing wouldn’t still be the right thing to do. A drop in the ocean, sure, but still preferable to the alternative.

Adhering to the treaty would result in there only being half as much anti-personel mines for civilians to step onto after the war, so it would still be doing something very positive. That being said, I do understand the reasons for withdrawing from the treaty. I miss the optimistic world where the treaty was drafted up, when it briefly seemed that most issues could be solved with multilateral international cooperation :(

…while still listening to everything they say in order to control them more efficiently.

The lander most probably made it down in one piece. It was designed to survive an atmospheric entry on Venus and from interplanetary speeds. It almost certainly survived a reentry into Earth from a low orbit. That being said, it probably shattered in the splashdown due to the parachute not deploying.

The war is bound to happen at the latest when the Himalayan mountain glaciers melt away and a sufficiently bad drought hits the region. We’ll see if they have the patience to wait that long though…
