Wayland and Cosmic are not there yet for beginners, more like beta, watch videos from Brodie Robertson, I’ll wait half year at least to try that for newbies.

But web browsers and video players are going to be painful with any distro.
This!
Even 4GB RAM is low for web browsers and they’re gonna struggle, A LOT, even with just one tab open, is going to be painfully slow to not want to use it anymore.
Old laptops like this, don’t have hardware video decoders for YouTube or any video in AVC or HEVC códecs that is used everywhere today.
You can use Gnumeric for spreadsheets and Abiword for docs if Libreoffice is too slow.
Bad idea, they struggle with YouTube or any video because they don’t have hardware decoders for AVC/HEVC.
Maybe can decode by software, something easy on CPU (MPEG1 maybe), and the conversion is done by other machine.
Maybe audio?
Reference: I have one of those Atom netbooks.
EFI didn’t work for me, maybe I need LILO
You get better screen use space and smaller memory requirements.
But your real big problem, is going to be web browser, all of them consume insane amount of RAM because of web boat, and always is going to be a problem. Just 1 tab open and a lot of patience.
I usually use Lemmy at my smartphone with 4G that was released 3 years ago, I’m happy with it, and I don’t need other one more new and expensive.
The area of 4G is very congested, then the connection is slower in peak hours.
Only rich people has last medium and high end smartphone with 5G, and live in area with that coverage.
I live now in downtown, and just got slow fiber connection 3 months ago, there are a lot buildings with only ADSL in this area, and it’s the capital.
Maybe you are lucky, with good connection.
Is not so hard to optimize the image for everyone in the world, and maybe put a link to original big image of you want.
There’s a lot of ways to optimize, like changing resolution, reduce colors, clean image. And compression, using webp lossy 95% you got a very small file that looks very close to the original, usually got less than 1MB.
Today’s web is very bloated for no reason, and very slow in old computers. Browsers are the main RAM eaters.
Still strong, maybe I need 1 more to decide if it’s a keeper.
It’s a lose adaptation of next Alucard/Belmont saga:
Very dark episode, I did like it, and makes this anime a more interesting.
Here comes the vampire arc! WATCHING
Was a nice first episode, good production and some ideas not so cliche
I did watch Goblin Slayer previous season, but just really enjoy the start. Dropped.
Shield Hero previous season start (1/3) was a mess, but later won me again. Watching
I’m older too, and don’t enjoy cliched Shonen, school, romance. But there’s a lot more than 10 titles per season it’s just first week. I’ve already had more than 10 anime than I’m going to follow till next week at least.
Even at 160kbps, maybe 1/1.000.000 people can recognice a FLAC vs MP3 trying 10 times (continuous) using expensive headphones and players, 320kbps is overkill, I prefer a FLAC and just encode to Opus.
Right now Opus is better and can be played in web browsers, smartphones, YouTube and Netflix are using that for awhile.
