Well, in case my username wasn’t clear enough lol

Gather around kids, story time. It was 2002 and I had a desktop pc with two video cards, one Matrox with dual video output (they were pretty much the only consumer ones with that at the time) on AGP slot, and one “something” (probably ATI, it still had and RCA port) on PCI. So I installed gentoo (from stage1, as it was custom at the time) and fiddled around with xorg.conf to have two monitors output from the Matrox and a third (yes, I had 3 monitors) from the ATI.
That’s when I understood the power of Linux (no way win2000 was able to do that).
I would have put assembly as true neutral
You’re assuming we’ll still be there in 10000bc. For how things are going I wouldn’t bet on it
ETA: It’s obviously 10000ad, never post when drunk
Well I only had one atari console, the one to play pong/tennis/squash on it with the rotating knob controls. Not sure if that qualify for a Atari dump 😅
I haven’t seen this in maybe 20 years. I printed it out at the time (on a dot matrix printer!) And read it to anyone who would listen to me. Thank you for bringing it up again.
Systemd 😈
It’s also due to very bad weather/floods in the second largest producer, Vietnam.
And since extreme weather events are increasing in intensity and frequency, it’s not going to get better (as a trend at least).
Free where I live. Biggest cost was the uber ride home
In corporate managed fleet of PCs updates are pushed by the company internal management systems. Some companies give you a 24hours option, some others (ahem, power tripping sysadmins, I know, I was one) say “fuck you and your work, you install when I say so”. It’s not strictly a Windows thing, it’s a company policy.
“Can I have a fry?” (takes the packet)
I had a couple of friends which had great traditions on oral
Yeah, I was thinking something similar. I’m not a DBA but it’s the easiest way (that I can think of) to record all transactions for a certain user.
Also that’s not how deduplication works.
He means/thinks that SSN is not unique (which is not a problem, just different design).
Of course he’s wrong about lots of stuff, just the nerd in me could not not explain it.
Oh yeah, I remember those. My solution was to not emerge anything for 24 hours, by the next day usually they fixed the issue.
Yes, I tried it around 2002/2003, back when the recommended way was from stage1. I think I had a P4 with HT. It was noticeably faster than redhat or mandrake (yes, I was distro hopping a lot). Emerge gnome-mono was a night run. Openoffice about 24hrs.
Lots of wasted time but I did learn how to setup some things manually.
If that guy would shut up (he’s_very_ convincing) I could have probably discovered cold fusion for real by now.
My inner voice swings between “we’re horny! Do something!” And “play all the videogames!”.
I needed this 2 years ago
I’d say, try to identify WHY they are drifting towards her, and see if you (both) can change that underlying cause.
In my case no technical/IT solution (and I’m an IT person). We just talked. If we needed more help with something we asked each other. Sometimes you can preempt (e.g. putting in a wash load), sometimes you are just too tired for going with a walk with the baby and so you ask.
We were lucky that I need less sleep than her and we were already in a routine about shopping, admin, cooking etc. But she had more of a view of what kind of baby clothes we needed, because she was in touch with other moms (so they swapped clothes when they grew out of them). That and the health checks (and vaccinations) are the only thing that were pretty much only on her (health checks because the hospital had her contact details, plus health checks were for her too). She had much more parental leave than me (9 months vs 2 weeks!).
Basically if there was anything to do around the house (cleaning, shopping, cooking, admin) that I could do, I did. Stuff related to “baby admin” she did. That is not to say she did nothing around the house, just that when you are surviving in 2hours of sleep at a time it gets difficult!
