I’ve got the Feb 1980 (5th printing) edition of Basic Computer Games - Microcomputer Edition sat on the shelf next to me… looking forward to comparing the dialect differences :)

They’ve explicitly acknowledge the overpromise in the part of NMS (And, thanks to the continuous, rolling, free and global updates to NMS, have more than delivered on everything they promised and then a load more that they didn’t promise, including next-generation graphical updates, and entire new procedural generation systems that have added even more to the environment).

They’ve gone above and beyond to deliver, I’d even hazard a guess that they’ve over-delivered as far as any bureaucratic or financial director is concerned. They’re working full-time on NMS nearly 10 years on from release! They’ve done enough to warrant a modicum of trust.

I’m not pre-ordering, but I’ll be watching with interest, and will likely buy on day-one.

It’s exactly the same gravitational pull as the star that previously collapsed… (And I’ve not read the article (yet), this is just a personal nitpick that I’ve had for a LONG time).

In terms of inevitably falling into a black hole, it’s only the material that formed interior to three times the event horizon radius — interior to what’s known as the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) in general relativity — that would inexorably get sucked into it. Compared to what actually falls into the event horizon in our physical reality, the purported “sucking” effects are nowhere to be found. In the end, we have only the force of gravity, and the curved spacetime that would result from the presence of these masses, affecting the evolution of objects located in space at all. The idea that black holes suck anything in is arguably the biggest myth about black holes of all. They grow due to gravitation, and nothing more. In this Universe, that’s more than enough to account for all the phenomena we observe.

That summary explains it better than I can.

Visually, at least on the outside, it looks something like a Stottie, Oggie or Pastie from the farming/mining areas of the UK. I always find it fascinating to see the convergent evolution of this sort of food - edible with one hand, hot and filling, with a crust that can be discarded if hands are filthy, or et if not.

I don’t really care about trustable, the only shampoo that reliably deals with my dandruff / itchy scalp is Head & Shoulders. It’s a pain in the ass if I don’t use it. I’d rather not, honestly - heard lots of, “You don’t need it, let it handle itself, just rinse it, whatever…” - yeah, I love looking like it’s snowing and scratching all the time.

That’s because HS2 is a totally flawed, Ill thought out, over budget and badly managed boondoggle - just like everything in the UK rail system since the Beeching cuts in the 60’s. If it was properly run, well thought out - and actually made a significant difference in time (not approximately 15 minutes from Piccadilly to Euston), we’d support it.

I’m a huge reader, massive… like, I spent up until I was about 29, 30 or so going to the library every week or two and getting 10 books out every time (That was the most you could get). I’d have read them all, and be champing at the bit to go back well within the week… it was a regular trip for us to go.

I’ve never actually read the Never Ending Story, and I loved the movie… one of my favourite childhood movies.

I’ve had the “Tetris Effect” happen to me - at one time I was really, really into Tetris (To the point where I could quite happily play GameBoy Tetris at max speed for… well, I did it for a few hours in one game once, much to the annoyance of my mate who actually owned the GameBoy and had agreed it would be, “Swap on death”), and I had the ‘visualising falling bricks’ ephemera afterwards, and vivd dreams about Tetris for a few days afterwards.

But, then again, if I get into anything pretty seriously, I’ll have dreams about it. I got really, really into building with Lego’s and I had dreams about that; same with Minecraft and No Man’s Sky.

Hey, you’ve found what’s good for you :) I did sample the Oban and it was nice, but not at the price they were hawking it at. My current overall favourite is probably a tossup between the Laphroaig Cairdeas I got in 2017 (I think? I’m a bit fuzzy) and a 12-year non-chill-filtered Aberlour… which are such different taste profiles as to be practically incomparable :D Everyone has different tastes, so… going back to the thread starter, let’s celebrate different tastes.

Laphroaig for the win… Was in Oban a few weeks back for a holiday and got a bottle of Kilchomain from the shop across the road from the distillery (no way was I paying the distillery prices - £75 for a 10 year?). Really enjoying it, quite liking the salty overtones.
