Mardis Gras 2020. Was down there for a buddy’s bachelor party. That place is fucking disgusting. Had an absolute blast. Somewhere between the bars, constant parties, strip clubs, and 3 days of abusing my body as hard as I possibly could, I caught it.

Exactly two weeks later I woke up and felt like shit. Didn’t lose smell or taste but just felt super lethargic and achy like I had the flu. Called the doctor and he basically said I’m young and healthy and not to come in and if I felt worse to go to the ER.

This was very early in all the shit, right as the lockdowns were getting started. Missed 3 days of work and stayed in bed most of the time. Tests weren’t available back then unless you were in the hospital. But man was New Orleans a good time.

Fo sho. My buddy bought one and talked it up. I tried it out as I was interested in a new chair since my work from home ability had recently increased from 25% to 50% arouns 2018. My broke ass 10+ year old chair from college was wayyy more comfortable. Invested in a ~$250 office chair after that. Have had it for 5 years, work from home 75% of the time, amazingly comfortable and it still looks like new.

I try to patronize my local game shops as much as I can. I’m not into card or board games which limits where I go but I’m lucky enough to have a few local game stores that sell a lot of retro games for fair prices.

Of course with new games (I still like to buy physical quite often) I generally have to buy from the big stores but I make it a point to avoid gamestop.

Return that immediately. I worked for gamestop for about 6 years from 11-16. It was a horribly run company that should be a relic of the past like circuit city and blockbuster. Executive management would rather make tiny profits than make pro-consumer changes that would draw in gamers (things like tournaments were actively discouraged).

I really hated that gamestop became a meme stock. It meant executive made a lot of money from no effort on their own. I would have much rather seen their shares go to zero and then get bought for pennies on the dollar, leaving the top brass on their ass.

My HVAC system does just this. It just reverses in the winter.

It probably took me 2 years to migrate fully. I forward most things. Reality is 95% of emails are pointless spam.

So I’ve noticed spam comes in waves. My gmail account will go months and be more or less fine and then in a period of a week I’ll get several dozen spam emails like “HoMe DePoT PoWeR DrIlL WiNnER” and the like. I always report spam and block.

My hotmail account on the other hand. I stopped checking and migrated every important account to gmail because I was getting spamming by the dozen every single day.

On the bright side, with smaller communities I have cut my time on lemmy in half from what it was on reddit to the point my wife has even brought up how less frequently I am staring at my phone.

Why am I on lemmy right now? Because it’s Friday so I am doing as little work as possible. I think I’ll go make some eggs.

KY/OH here. It’s not a Cali thing, it’s an American thing. Almost daily I have people rolling through stop signs or just straight up not stopping at stop lights if they’re turning right.

Story time: drove in Europe for the first time this year. Totally different. Lower speed limits even with that weird metric system. Way less lights and more round abouts and stop signs.

You make a good point. Is there a life-tree of devs that shows their companies and games? It’d love to see those art directors names we know across the different devs and publishers they worked for but also the lesser known names that really make great games what they are.

Same thing that happens with most drugs. It’ll still get in, prices will skyrocket, and it’ll be laced with fentanyl so instead of enjoying a nice cup of coffee, you’ll die because the government tried to tell you what you can do to your own body again.
