Not necessarily a shooter, but Out of Sight was a cool take on the Second Person genre, and unusually eerie because of that very mechanic.

The issue is that it needs to be informed consent, rather than just “they said yes”… or even worse, “they didn’t say no”. I feel like I need a shower just typing that.

In this instance, the girl may have seemed like a willing participant - but anyone “consenting” when they’re below 16 (or whatever your local jurisdiction’s legal age is) needs to be taken with a truckful of salt, and in most cases is entirely inadmissable as a legal defence. I’m all for granting young adults the opportunity to make most decisions for themselves - but there are certain grey areas that their age renders them vulnerable to coercion or exploitation, sexual interactions being one of them.

There are of course very narrow exceptions - most notably the Romeo and Juliet laws, but it’s generally accepted that if one party is below the age of consent while the other isn’t, then the consent is not informed and therefore not valid.

It doesn’t have to be age-based either. It can be in environments where there is a sufficient difference in power dynamic (big difference in levels of seniority in the workplace; persons with learning disabilities or additional needs; or those with dependency issues) where consent is not informed and is the subject of coercion rather than genuine consent.

In short, a cardboard box full of food that contains the fat and salt content that exceeds the recommended daily intake for an entire small African country, for about £12 (~US$20?) which is absolutely fantastic for filling you up after having one or two or seventeen too many alcoholic beverages that evening.

Basically, a pizza box rammed with carbs and meats - chips, rice, battered chicken balls, onion rings, satay sticks, salads, all sorts of shit.

It’s like a happy meal for an adult. Being absolutely smashed while troughing it only adds to the experience. Usually good for then following morning too.

In fairness, nobody specifically told me not to kill other folk or set people’s houses on fire or sexually harass folk. What I did have drilled in to me was an idea of mutual respect; personal boundaries; how not to be a complete dickhead (some may say I’ve not learned much at all about that bit); and how to coexist with others to make everyone’s day that little bit easier, regardless of their gender identity.

I can only assume those basic life lessons are either not being driven home as strongly as they should be in modern life; or there’s outside influences drowning out those voices.

I know it’s a cult classic, but I couldn’t get my head around the film, it didnt enjoy it at all. Perhaps it’s because I went in with the desire to see another J-horror in the vein of Ring or Ju-On or Dark Water etc.

I’m going to treat myself to an Ito box set after Christmas and read the visual novels instead I think, give it another bash.

Honestly I never opened it. I have a Master System II and in fairness, the difference in game ports are negligible for the most part, so I never really looked at repairing it.

Speaking more broadly, I wouldn’t mind learning how to solder - my skills have mostly been in software rather than hardware. Things like fucking about with a Raspberry Pi and their expansion boards sounds like a right laugh.

Game Gear “services” are quite common now - you can get them recapped to solve the infamously troublesome sound dropouts, and most will change the screen to a far more power efficient LCD display as well to let you play at night.

It still eats batteries, but at a much slower rate.

Super Mario World all day long.

SMB3 was an absolute banger and revolutionised the platforming genre while making the hardware run things it had no business doing, so much so that even id Software took inspiration from it.

World just improved the formula in every single way though. Far from ragging on SMB3, World just took an amazing game and polished it up beyond what was expected.

Perhaps it’s because I grew up with adventure puzzle games and point’n’click games, but GameFAQs was always the nuclear option for me.

I much preferred the Universal Hint System - an approach more suited to nudging you towards figuring out the answer for yourself.

There’s no denying that it was (and is) a fantastic resource though. Hell, I’ve even written a guide myself. One of the last bastions of the 90s and 2000s WWW experience.
