I knew WB’s HD-DVDs (remember those?) were a timebomb. I didn’t realize regular DVDs were, too.

I’ve always used Transmission, since there’s a Docker container I use that bakes in your VPN-of-choice & a killswitch.
https://haugene.github.io/docker-transmission-openvpn/
That said, it looks like it hasn’t been updated in over a year… I wonder if there’s anything else out there that does the same thing as this. (EDIT: Yes. Google brings up plenty of choices.)

Saying nginx with a “hard g” can get you into some real trouble…
The sad truth is that the vast majority of people WANT an algorithm to tell them what they like.
Mastodon requires you to actually have your own opinions going in, and follow material based on that.

My concern is basically the usual “Nvidia hates Linux”.
Also:

Nvidia GPUs are currently in beta with major caveats

Seriously considering a switch to Bazzite on my actual gaming PC.
Me having a RTX3070 is holding me back, though. Maybe AMD will have a decent, not-too-stupidly-expensive card in the 9070XT. Really don’t want to spend more than $500-600 on a GPU. And I really don’t want to replace it until I can get something with at least twice the performance.

I legitimately don’t understand why the U.S. isn’t the only locality where it shows up as “Gulf of America”.
Set the en-US string to “Gulf of America”. Leave literally every other region’s text string untouched from what it was 6 months ago.
When the next Democrat U.S. President gets sworn in and immediately Executive Orders it back to “Gulf of Mexico”, change the en-US string back to that.
This is all so stupid and melodramatic.

It was all about “fun” in the days of MySpace and Digg and early-Reddit. That damn cat wanted a damn cheeseburger and we all laughed about it.
Then it became all about politics. And people would go to any lengths to ensure that “their” politics “won” on social media. We went from people having fleets of alt accounts, to fleets of bots, to just having AI spread and upvote propaganda.
So, it’s all just gross now. I want my goddamn Geocities & Yahoo! Towers back.

Such a weird thing for everyone to fixate on and lose their shit. Let our dumbass en-US selves do whatever “official” dumbass thing we have to with the name.
Everyone else can leave it what it always was.
Next time there’s a Democrat U.S. President, the “en-US” term will be changed back to Gulf of Mexico.
This is stupid.

I do worry about Nissan’s future when they seem to be about this close to operating with zero profits.

Genuinely curious… How does Google handle other oceanic naming that isn’t agreed upon Worldwide?

Who would’ve thought… 3DFX was apparently ahead of its time…

I love Mastodon. It’s easily my favorite & most-used social media platform right now.
But I’m also a huge damn nerd.
I honestly can’t say I’d recommend it to anyone that isn’t also a huge damn nerd, because they just won’t find stuff they want.
“You want sports? We don’t have much of that, but check out the Proxmox server in this guy’s basement!”

Okay, cool…
So, how much longer before Nvidia stops slapping a “$500-600 RTX XX70” label on a $300 RTX XX60 product with each new generation?
The thinly-veiled 75-100% price increases aren’t fun for those of us not constantly-touching-themselves over AI.
Kid-Me could somehow navigate that final Zelda II dungeon based on nothing but dumb luck.
Now I can barely get past World 1-1 in SMB.
(I played the shit out of Zelda II… and I liked it.)

Probably true.
But until a court actually steps up to say it, it’s the Wild West out there. And as soon as this gets shot down, another executive order will get wedged back in there to keep the rigs drilling.
EDIT: Apparently the naming had nothing to do with drilling. The drilling ban was already specifically reversed in a different executive order that reversed several Biden EOs

I don’t disagree.
But recent interpretation of the use of executive order is hurtling toward the president having near-monarch authority
So, until the reach of executive orders gets reigned in… here we are.
