Operation: Return Paperclip
The people with negative scores are the ones you can trust to be a decent person.
There IS reason for preinstallation, there are many people out there who lack the passion to research Linux, and would gravitate towards the familiar - Steam, in the case of gamers. The point is to make a switch away from Windows as unproblematic for as many people as possible. Also, Valve is developing a desktop version of Arch SteamOS.
Making an OS easy to use in everyday life is the key to mass adoption. If the EU wants to get away from Microsoft’s garden, that means advertising valid options to people who aren’t attuned to Linux.
Money isn’t the issue for SteamOS, it is awareness and making it available as an pre-installed option on consumer PCs. The EU could create standardized pamphlets about Fedora, Red Hat, and SteamOS, mandating stores to present that digestable information to consumers so that they know what flavor is best for their usecase.
Ideally, that would be part of their initiative. There are multiple angles that can be taken to encourage Linux adoption. Standards for formal documentation and technical support options are two prongs on the same trident.
Linux isn’t very good for the casual person at this time, due to conflicting, dated, or missing documentation. If people are to be encouraged to adopt Linux, it should be toward distributions that have official technical support.
I don’t think it is social media. It is much more simple: people can’t spend time with each other. Employers keep reducing the wages, while maintaining or increasing the amount of work their employees have to do. This means that workers can’t invest time into friends or family, which in turn deprives children of healthy role models.
Jackasses like Tate get to influence the children, because there is a void that has been left empty - Tate has enough wealth and time to fill in for society. Work culture is a ravenous beast, forever chasing workers. If you pause, you lose everything. So you might as well sacrifice the time you could spend with family, since you would lose them anyway if you shirk being a breadwinner.
Optimization for the sake of line going up, inevitably destroys everything that surrounds the pillar that society is forced to worship.
Hopefully the French will also endorse Fedora, Red Hat, and Valve’s SteamOS. Microsoft is a huge security issue, since it isn’t clear whether MS would bend to DOGE’s whims. The NLRB and other aspects of the US government had DOGE set up accounts, which were accessed within 15 minutes by Russia.
Far as I can tell, Neobanks are the best option for less well-off Americans. I personally would go for Wise since it allows for banking through a desktop browser, but Revolut and Neon might be better options if you use smartphones. Neon in particular, since that is part of the EU bloc, uses IBAN Internation Bank Account Number, and is based in Switzerland. Revolut and Wise are based in London.
Mind, I haven’t actually tried signing up for a neobank account as of yet. Do further research for any concerns you have, since I am pretty amateur at this fiscal stuff.
Yeah. There was a time I merely thought the other side was misguided, but would see reason if we talk. That isn’t how it works. Bullies only recognize power, and one should know when to speak their language.
Hell no. You want us to surrender to evil people.
When buying future appliances, I have to be sure to get them from the EU. Standards in the US are going to be below the floor.
Bought. I want to encourage companies to ditch DRM. It will be a major cockblock if America suffers a civil war, since internet and companies will be in disarray. If I end up becoming a soldier, being able to play games without compromising security would be much appreciated, in all the ways.
I think the way forward is to have socialism provide all necessities for people - meal kits, utilities, shelter, transport, free gasoline, healthcare, and so forth that are designed to be boring but effective. Capitalism can be used to obtain luxuries - a wider variety of food, fancier cars, bigger houses, brazilian buttlifts, singing bass decorations, and so forth. Money is solely used for such things.
By doing it this way, people can choose to protest or strike without suffering too much from doing so. Work becomes optional, since survival is ensured. Combined with imposing floors and ceilings on wealth, we can promote democracy and socialism, without sacrificing the vitality of a healthy capitalism.
One reason why I want to have a house to myself: organization. I live with a hoarder and a slob, which means the kitchen counters get filled with random stuff, and the floor has tripping hazards. Plus the generally unsightly nature of just having stuff jumbled about. While I am not a clean freak by any means (DUST!), I would like to properly shelf things or to walk around without surprises.
There are some things you can’t really fight, one of them being wealthier relatives who own the shelter you reside in. So long as I am stuck in my current residence, I cannot have peace of mind beyond my room.
Actually, I think they are compatible…but in a VERY specific way. I believe that government should provide all basic necessities to people, such as food, shelter, healthcare, transport, gasoline, and so forth. Capitalism can be used for luxury items, such as fashionable clothing, bigger houses, flavored toothpaste, singing bass decorations, ect. In this way, money is used for lifestyle, rather than being a requirement for survival.
This effectively allows people to strike or protest at will, since the coercive power of government and corporations is much reduced. We get to keep the efficiency of capitalism, while keeping it from metastasizing into a cancer.
An Oligarchic Republic, your wealth determines how many votes you get. In this system, the 99% of poor voters are shit.
We will need wealth floors and ceilings in a revised Constitution in order to get rid of this issue. Economics, politics, and violence, are just different faces of power. The great mistake of the Founding Fathers was failing to recognize that money needs checks and balances, else it runs out of control.
As a crimson lining, I hope the United State’s decay will teach Germany to destroy the AfD and all other right wingers. They are a poison to civilization.
