  • Money or currency is a way to represent value

It is a medium of exchange

Could your boss pay you in cows? Could you take those cows and trade them for a car? Yes but this would be difficult.

So if your boss gave you a cow voucher “money” and you could trade that for a car, then you wouldn’t have to lug the cows around.

    It facilitates trade

Why a US dollar, or another currency, has value is a whole other question

  • Socialism. Production and distribution is owned by the community (government).

It has nothing to do with “Handouts”. Or helping your neighbor really.

There is no redistribution of wealth. That is communism.

    Socialism with handouts is communism.

You could have a completely Socialistic society that let’s some of it’s people starve because it benefits the majority.

A great example to look at socialism is the nazi party creating Volkswagen.

People in Germany needed an affordable car. They created the production and distribution of affordable cars, owned and operated by the controlling government party.

Now, you can debate all you want on if it was a good or bad idea.

Average German looking for simple affordable car? Probably would think it was a good idea.

Rich German looking for a Duesenberg? Probably hates the idea of Volkswagen and spending their tax dollars on it.

Poor German? They aren’t getting a car anyways

A large government can easily have a monopoly on a good or service.

If that’s a good or bad thing is debatable

For example, say America was 100% Socialistic.

Government would gain access to all satalites and towers and issue the Volkstelefon. Affordable phone and internet for everyone!

    Sounds great?

Imagine if tomorrow Trump issued his phone in that style.

    Probably not a good idea?

    So why all the hate?

ELI5: Because socialism is not always the right answer just like capitalism isn’t always the right answer.

  • I’m half Mexican half Finnish. Strange mix. Pure white.

    I understand the hardship

Random people do not think my father is my father.

I’ve been stopped multiple times by police walking with him to make sure I was okay when I was a kid. All good, just walking around the neighborhood with my dad lol.

Edit: It’s also funny growing up people asking me who our gardener was. Also my dad.

  • I’m a white hotel towel Mexican

Always thought it was strange to mark “White, Hispanic” on everything because that was an option always growing up. Like you all really do need to know my skin color don’t you.

If you didn’t know my last name you’d never guess I wasn’t “American”

  • I have been on this planet for a while and I have only seen the night sky like the last picture driving through Texas in the middle of nowhere.

Power going out in a city isn’t enough to stop the light population from surrounding areas. It would have to be the only city around for miles and it would have to be a full power loss.

I would say most people have never came close to seeing an uncountable amount of stars in the sky.

I live in a medium sized city that is 30 minutes from a large city. I can count like a dozen stars in the sky. If we lose power the sky doesn’t magically change to look like it was in Texas. Honestly, I don’t remember it changing at all.

  • The idea was as she got older he wouldn’t date younger than her current age. Weird and creepy but not the weird and creepy way you think.

    “In 3 years when you’re 20 I won’t be dating an 18-year-old.”

    This was in 2006

    Trump married Melenia in 2005

So imagine saying this after being married to your wife for a year.

Here’s another quote of him saying he has no age limit only to back track and then “weaved” to bring up another senator’s folly to divert attention on what he almost just let get confirmed.

Things got a little weird after co-host Robin Quivers asked Trump if he had “an age limit.”

Trump fumbled a bit at the response.

“If I— No, no, I have no age— I mean, I have an age li—” Trump said, while Quivers asked him “the upper bracket” of his limit.

  • A laptop with a screen on both sides would have its niche.

Shuting it would be like a tablet.

You could do something while a person across watches.

If you could rotate the screen you could swivel the screen to swap between two physical screens. I prefer two monitors over an ultra wide or trying to digitally swap between two screens. Rotating screen would have the problem of not being able to see both at once.

However, if you made the screen on the back hinge forward. You could flip the screen towards you and have a second physical monitor.

Sounds expensive and not really needed. But it wouldn’t be a bad design

  • I get that

I wouldn’t buy diamonds or gold hoping they increase in price just as much as I wouldn’t buy bitcoin to do the same.

If you offered me 1USD in Gold, Diamond, or Bitcoin.

I would take the gold. It has the most intrinsic value.

The probably that gold hits 0USD is less than bitcoin hitting 0USD.

The only reason you’d take bitcoin is if you think that it has a higher ceiling. Intrinsic value is the floor. But that is gambling

  • Gold and diamonds have intrinsic value

Gold is needed for computer parts, and diamonds are used for cutting

They are more than just shiny

Their value will “never” hit 0 (Bitcoin would be worthless without gold for computers)

Yes, we could find substitutes in the future, but for the substances to not be useful somehow is so low and would have to be an apocalyptic scenario. And in an apocalypse, gold could even be worth more.

  • Rapeseed (Brassica napus subsp. napus), also known as rape and oilseed rape and canola, is a bright-yellow flowering member of the family Brassicaceae (mustard or cabbage family), cultivated mainly for its oil-rich seed, which naturally contains appreciable amounts of mildly toxic erucic acid.[2] The term “canola” denotes a group of rapeseed cultivars that were bred to have very low levels of erucic acid and which are especially prized for use as human and animal food. Rapeseed is the third-largest source of vegetable oil and the second-largest source of protein meal in the world.[3][4]

Brassica napus subsp. napus is the proper name. Everything else is slang and not worth arguing about.

    We call it Sunflower Oil

    We call it Rapeseed Oil

    Not Rape Seed Oil
