Hosting is half of it, but the user-submitted section is a thriving social ecosystem. It’s a lot like reddit or Lemmy, but all submissions are image-based only with sizable comment sections attached like anywhere else. I was very involved there 12 years back and enjoyed it quite a lot. I tried really hard to earn my green (highest karma) badge, but I believe I got second or third highest before running out of steam. You had a profile full of badges and stuff, and users actually valued karma there, unlike on reddit or Lemmy.

But the mood changed other time and it became a hub for bullshit, sob stories and very tired, very played-out jokes. Then the eventual UI changes drove the nail in the coffin and I found it unusable.

There is one particular park in my city that my kid loves to play at. It’s by far the most elaborate and impressive, so it’s hard to avoid going there sometimes. But whenever we go, my wife and I often encounter a very, very chatty older Polish guy who has lived an exhilarating life of travel, mountain climbing, and spelunking.

His adventures were interesting to hear about the first time we encountered him. But now every time we run into him he spends the better part of an hour just overwhelming us with tales of his adventures with mild occasional racism peppered throughout, with very few (if any) openings to speak or change the subject. You can only say, “Oh, wow.”, “Really?”, “Woah, that’s crazy…”, and “Wow, I didn’t know that…” so many times before it takes a heavy toll on your body and mind.

There is no off-ramp with the Polish Adventurer. He is there to climb you.

It probably would have helped. Honestly, someone needs to get all of the world leaders tripping balls in one place. I, for one, would welcome a shaman-led society.

I’ve been going hard on Stardew Valley. Just had another kid and no good opportunities to play on PC now, so I bought a Backbone controller off of Amazon and turned my phone into a Switch.

3 is my favorite of the two, but World was objectively better in terms of mechanics and overall design. Still, I’ll always play 3 if given the choice between them.

I always wonder about siblings in general, but I can’t just ask my wife if her sister looks exactly like her when naked. I don’t think that question would go over well… And I’m not going to ask my brother to show me his dong.

This is the natural progression in my decade-long quest to just get one fucking friend to play and of the original STALKER games. Sometimes I feel like I chose to incarnate into this particular simulation where life gets really good in my late-thirties, but I spend a lifetime failing to get friends into STALKER.

I don’t know if this will age like my previous belief that PS1 had photo-realistic graphics, but I feel like 4k is the peak for TVs. I recently bought a 65" 4k TV and not only is it the clearest image I’ve ever seen, but it takes up a good chunk of my livingroom. Any larger would just look ridiculous.

Unless the average person starts using abandoned cathedrals as their livingrooms, I don’t see how larger TVs with even higher definition would even be practical. Especially if you consider we already have 8k for those who do use cathedral entertainment systems.

It has to be ego. I set my ego aside constantly and try to be open minded, and I am very open minded, but sometimes in privacy it’s just so goddamn big for no fucking reason… Like when rehashing a 10-year-old argument in the shower.

There are a few new missing persons reports on (what were) the last twelve remaining good people on the planet. The rest of us are down here jacking off in the bathroom with the fan on because parenthood has made it increasingly difficult (and way too risky) to do it in front of a computer.
