Reading arguments about these concepts while many people completely disagree what their definitions are feels like treading water waiting to exhaust myself and drown.
Maybe the point is the policies and anyone who argues about words is part of the problem.
This is basically why I’m not really using the apps. Firefox mobile browser seems the most convenient way to browse IMO, at least for now. If I want to look at the local for sh.itjust.works I just open a new tab at sh.itjust.works.
It’s kinda meta and more than a little dumb. The “joke” of the subway meme is to have the text have nothing to do with subway, and to show obvious evidence of lots of edits and compression, like there was a back-and-forth argument. Idk why.
They started stacking stones when they got stuck on the island, and she symbolically stopped with the seashell when they were free. It is the intended final addition. Kinda makes it an informative monument, they have a sort of physical record of how many generations were stuck on the island.

People seem to want a lot of things from the fediverse right now but the key to most of them is patience. The platform and userbase are both unstable. Lemmy and kbin are both unfinished software that need more time and effort, and/or more devs. There isn’t any getting around that.
As for the users, there are a huge amount of new ones every day, most coming from reddit, and they want to talk about what is fresh and relevant to them. We won’t be able to get off the topic of reddit until it stops sending migrators. Additionally, people aren’t quite certain how to use this space yet, and haven’t finished finding/setting up the communities they want. It is going to take time, possibly more so than the development of lemmy and kbin.
