  • What really helped me was simplifying my life and putting myself first. Let’s take your statements one at a time:

Ex-Boyfriend - does not care about you. Don’t waste your energy there. It helped me to mute these people on socials and put them on limited view of my posts if you don’t want to block or remove.

Girlfriend - decide if you want to stay in this situation. What would need to improve to make it better? Will your partner accept these improvements? This should be your top priority. I don’t know you and I don’t know your background but the boyfriend breakup -> new sexuality -> open relationship jump seems confusing, complicated and a lot to take on. Take a hard look and make sure you’re doing this because it’s what you want - not from a place of looking for validation/acceptance or chasing someone.

Long-Time Friend - cut contact fully and take some space. Not now does not mean not ever. I had to have a difficult conversation with a friend recently where they really bought into rumours someone was spreading about me without asking me about it and wanted to make it up to me and I had to tell them I’m happy to be on friendly terms but don’t have the personal emotional capacity for more at this time. You don’t even have to tell the friend this much. You can just decide it and answer or not when you’re ready. No one has you at gunpoint forcing you to talk to people. See above on muting them on socials so you’re not tempted to interact.

Then, fill your time with things you enjoy. Take a fuck it attitude and get out there. For example, I found a group on meetup who had a common interest and went to some nights. It wasn’t expensive - the price of a cup of coffee - and it got me out of the house and interacting with new people. Look for low commitment things so you don’t overextend.

Exercise is good too. I find when I’m in crisis I tend to potato to weather the storm. Then when I’m on the mend I tend to get back into my routine.

Try to notice the way you talk to yourself in daily life too. You’ll get stuck longer if you’re down on yourself. For example jokes like “I’m dumb” become reality and your perception of yourself really quickly. I write one positive line about myself every day in my planner/journal.

I also found finding one to two “hype” people on social media who said positive things to be helpful. You mentioned your anxiety. If you’re not already doing so, seek out healthy, positive content to help you with that. It’s 2025 and therapy is expensive. This is a good first step.

Controversial, but there is a chatgpt therapist extension (not sure if free or paid). If I really feel emotional and stuck, and in my case I couldn’t vent to my friend anymore, I turn on temporary chat and let it fly with the chatgpt therapist. It is helpful to get validation/perspective on my situation in the moment and without judgement.

I know this is a lot but you can get through it by taking small steps. We all go through difficult times throughout life and each one is going to help you build resilience. Again, I don’t know you, your age or your circumstances but your post reads like you are younger. I know it’s cliche but the things that seemed like the world was ending when I was younger don’t even seem like real challenges now. Life really is one crisis after another.

  • I mean there’s no right wing party in Canada either. The one we had has lost serious momentum over this.

He doesn’t joke. He said tariffs are coming for Europe and they will. Canada 51st state isn’t a joke.

To be honest Canada’s feeling pretty alone and abandoned by the international community. Other allies should also be standing up to this nonsense. This isn’t how we all stand up to bullies.

I don’t think it’s a factor about him being old. He’s a figurehead. It’s the tech bro billionaires and ghouls he’s putting in place to operationalize their own plans. This includes dismantling democracy. That’s not just going to stop with the US.

They’ll be coming at you guys soon enough. Best to figure out which side you’re on.

  • Whaat? How is it at all fair to kick these people out of their homeland? Especially after Israel’s response was so incredibly disproportionate when compared to the October 7th attacks. Like what 3k people vs well over 40k??? Bombing hospitals???

Given Trump’s comments about the real estate in Gaza let’s not pretend he just doesn’t want to give it to Israel if he gets a piece of the development pie. Let’s not forget Netanyahu was visiting Trump before he assumed the presidency.

It’s not right. The Palestinians should have their land back. The only moral solution is a two state solution. The only secure solution is a two state solution. Dispossessing regular people and effectively kicking them when they’re down isn’t exactly a deterrent to terrorism.

I fear they’ve already decided what they’re going to do and now they’re just trying to make everyone buy it.

  • The conservatives in Canada have been going wild over carbon pricing.

The current government recently removed carbon taxes on home heating oil for the Maritimes, where home heating oil is used a lot, to make things more affordable during the cold winter months.

The conservatives are collectively screaming that this should be evenly applied to everyone and that home heating carbon pricing (but really all carbon pricing) should be removed. And that the PM is only doing this to retain votes in the maritimes.

Because this is a hot button issue, the conservatives are trying to claim that this legislation makes Ukraine agree to implement a carbon tax, but as is often the case with conservatives, this isn’t reality at all. In reality if I recall correctly, Ukraine needs to put in measures to reduce carbon emissions. This is something they have already agreed to do to be part of the EU.

Fascist Milhouse, the opposition leader, just wanted to spin the issue into a culture war topic that touches on a lot of things he’s been yelling about like affordability (he has no plan to improve this).

The last part is purely my conjecture: I would not be surprised if he is cozy with Russia. He was cozy with the “Freedom” Convoy in Canada that conveniently spun up right as Russia invaded Ukraine. The troll farms on Reddit were heavily commenting/ arguing/ advancing the cause of the Convoy, and Facebook groups/propaganda about it was thick. I notice that conservatives in Canada use Facebook groups like “Canada Proud” and “Ontario Proud” to advance their causes and these spin up like crazy around election time. These groups have dubious ownership at best and I suspect are foreign influence operations. Interestingly for a while the conservatives were chomping at the bit to investigate foreign interference in Canada’s election but hmmm oddly wanted to ignore Russia and focus on China instead. If you’re squeaky clean wouldn’t you want to focus on all foreign interference, no matter the source?

This, imo is also why they were trying to tie the previous speaker of the House’s dumb decision to honour a Ukrainian war vet (oops he fought on the side of Germany) to = Ukraine supports Nazis/the PM supports Nazis. That’s not reality and it was a dumb oversight by the speaker of the house and his office who has nothing to do with the PM. But I do recall that one of Russia’s favourite attacks on Ukraine is that they are Nazis so this line of attack by the conservatives here in Canada seems questionable at best.

TLDR send help, Canadians are falling for the lies of a fascist shitbird
