Ugh… just bought some new Bluetooth headphones and my god i wish they’d let these little chargers just die already.

Me too! Just replaced my eight year old (and beat to crap) Chromebook with a corporate hand-me-down laptop that I stole got when they ordered new laptops! Just played around with both Mint and Ubuntu for a couple weeks and I’ve seriously loved it.

Just switched to Linux for my daily driver laptop!

I was so tempted to try their service, but it was always in the back of my mind, inside the part of my brain that was conscious during marketing 101 class in college: “What’s the long term business model here? What happens after they have everyone’s genetic identity?” Then it dawned on me like ooooohhhhh that’s the plan… no thanks.

The automotive manufacturers General Motors and Chrysler were partially nationalized in the wake of the 2008 Financial Crisis as were several banks… these were less a full government takeover and more of a government guided restructuring, but the government owned large stakes in these companies. Before that, the only full nationalization of anything substantial was the bankruptcy of the Penn Central Railroad and subsequent establishment of Consolidated Rail (branded as ConRail) the US’s only national freight rail company.
Conrail was later privatized into what is now the private companies CSX and Norfolk Southern. The collapse of Penn Central was the largest bankruptcy in history until Enron in the 1990’s. Amtrak, our national passenger rail corporation, is also a nationalized entity created around the same time as ConRail, for similar reasons, and is still nationalized (although the Trump admin wants to privatize it).

I think it’ll be more of an Enron slash Theranos docudrama… questionable accounting and overvaluation mixed with a superstar CEO stuck in a faking-it-till-you-make-it corporate death loop with investors drunk on hype.
Indeed it is brother… indeed it is.
They’re kinda like the S-Pen… is it cool? Sure! Do I find myself using it? No, not really.

I really loved the “Anchor Man” DVD menu. Solid graphics, great playthrough, simple controls.
Gigastructural Engineering for Stellaris… the megastructures included in the game and DLC are great, but they lack a certain insanity. Plus the mod allows you to terraform any planet (even gas giants).

All your need to do is drop in one card randomly with all the holes punched out to screw up those things… there was a name for doing that to be a dick but I forgot and am drunk right now so I don’t feel like looking it up.

It’ll be renamed to the “Holy Land of America” on Google maps any day now, so I guess they’ll all get called “Ameristinians” as a catch-all term.
OBVIOUSLY /s

Yeah, Apple was able to fall on their faces with the Lisa but still get to the Macintosh and greatness.

This is going to be my Year of Linux, finally taking the plunge. Nothing special, just a used laptop running Mint to replace a Chromebook (who’s hardware has finally failed). Gonna try to replace my gaming PC next year once I’ve got more of a handle on the different distros and have played around with them (and more money).

because I do not trust big tech.
Dude, same. I mean, I get that’s why many are here, but it’s just gotten so much worse lately.
Starting to build my first Linux machine to use as my daily driver laptop. Been meaning to get into it all for years, but Microsoft’s constant shenanigans as of late and everyone on Lemmy really pushed me to take the plunge.
It’ll be a “baby’s first project” of a used Thinkpad running on Mint, but it’s a start to getting out from under these corporate fucks. Every step away is a step to which I’m not planning to return.
Yeah, the plan was similar to when Time-Warner acquired Myspace only to not understand what a social media site is inherently; then fumble the bag and sell as fast as possible. They really fucked themselves left right and center on that deal… but everyone’s friend Tom is still a multimillionaire.
Automattic declined to share a time frame as to when the migration would be complete, given its scale, but a rep for the company called the progress so far “exciting.”
Yeah, they’ve been talking about this for years now.

From what I’m given to understand of my state’s laws, this would be covered under the same kind of thing as the surveillance cameras at a convenience store or shopping center parking lot and the expectations a person would have for their privacy… it just sucks.
I’m sure Apple will let everyone know that we’re just holding the phone wrong.
