  • An LLM trained on all books ever written would probably take romance novels, books by flat earthers, or even “Atlas Shrugged” as truth as much as current AIs consider all stack overflow comments to contain useful and accurate information.

Thinking about it, your questions comes back to the very first and original instance of a computer and the question interested people asked about it:

If you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answer come out?

Now if we allow ourselves the illusion of assuming that an AGI could exist, and that it can actually learn by itself in a similar way as humans, than just that quote above leads us to these two truths:

    • LLMs cannot help being stupid, they just do not know any better.
    • AGIs will probably be idiots, just like the humans asking the above question, but there is at least a chance that they will not.

  • What You’re Proposing by Status Quo.

I know they have this whole minimalist gig going on and all, but… damn guys, really, the same words over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, and then some.

I do like some of their other songs, I really do, but I hate this with passion.

  • I believe in equal rights and opportunities for all, be they man, woman, in between or none of the above.

But saying (and perhaps believing) one is a feminist and actually acting like one are often two different pairs of shoes. We all are confronted with so much discrimination, with so much bias, with so much misogyny, it takes active labour to actually behave like a feminist, because no matter how you think about yourself, at some point and to some degree, all that shit we get confronted with every day will rub off on us, and we have to understand that and constantly check ourselves so that it does not influence us in our thought patterns. Constant mental garbage collection, if you want.

That is true for all kinds of discrimination, no matter what it is based on.

  • Nvidia compatibility had been getting steadily worse on x.org for the four or five years prior to the switch to wayland. It is getting steadily better on wayland now and I would pick wayland from a stability point of view right now.

Sadly, that has not been my experience. I tried using wayland on several different computers with nvidia cards (yeah yeah I know, would not buy them again today), and the result was pretty terrible. Random crashes terrible. The same is not true with X. It is also not simply the case of the nvidia propriatary drivers being terrible (they are), because on one of the machines, I installed the open source driver instead (mostly because the proprietary driver would spin the fan full speed all the time, and I found no way to stop it from doing that).
