  • Can we exert more influence over China if we work with them?

We thought the same thing back in the late 90s and early 00s. It didn’t work out very well for us. It gave them the economic and technological means to surveil their people and build up their military, while we benefited from cheap goods, but at the cost of losing our manufacturing base and electing someone who probably has serious brain damage. Who will now run our country into the ground.

All in all, I expect serious damage to our country, and China to go after Taiwan with their considerable military to grind up their young men, who have no chance of ever having a family after the one child policy screwed up their gender balance so badly.

If you have to hitch yourselves to another state, I recommend Europe over China.

  • The entire plane has to be redesigned from the ground up, that’s what he’s explaining. The F-35s are caked in sensors like a valve index. They have special paints and materials that absorb radar, making the radar profile look more like a bird than aircraft-sized hunk of metal, which is useful against Russian and Iranian anti air SAMs, the same ones taking down Ukrainian jets. But that also includes the body shape, the engine intakes (even engine blade materials), everything.

Can the Europeans create an F-35 class platform? Absolutely. But you can’t just retrofit your way out of a brand new generation of plane. It’s like trying to retrofit a Ford F-350 super duty to conform to Japanese Kei truck regulations and weight classes. You end up redesigning the whole thing.

  • Perhaps it’s different where I live, but when one of my friends asked me out, I just told him that I unfortunately wasn’t interested in him, but I still wanted to be friends. We stayed close friends, and I actually introduced him to one of my other friends. They hit it off and are still together seven(ish) years later :)

They live in a different state right now, but we still have yearly get-togethers. I miss them and hope they can move here soon :)

  • Oh man, I’d say just the opposite! Date your friends! You know them well, you become good friends before you ever even start dating, which is great for pacing, and you both probably share a lot in common.

There’s nothing quite like holding hands with your best friend, or quietly reading together. Or going skiing together ❤️

It’s how long term relationships have formed for a handful of my buddies. And it’s also how I met my spouse :)

While not everything works out, having a rock solid friendship can lead to an extremely strong relationship.

  • This is mostly true, haha. Though…

I held open a door in Canada and got berated for it by someone in their 40s. He wanted me to slam the door in his face, which I get if it was an apartment on the east side of Vancouver, but this was not the case, lol.

I’m always amazed that Canada has more extreme personality types than where I’ve lived in the US. Generally people are more nice, but the mean ones are jaw-droppingly mean, lol. Always gives me a bit of culture shock whenever it happens, which is probably once every 10 visits or so (I visit often).

The most recent one was someone who was extremely bothered that we rented out a space for a wedding and admonished the groom that he was using a community space an hour before it was set to open (we got permission from the landlords to use it as such.)

All that aside, Canada is not for sale, Fuck those cunts in the Trump administration, and you guys were fully justified for what you did in 1812. 😎
