Yeah but the whole solar system is moving at 720,000 km/h, so all those bikes on other planets are moving just as fast.

Because you need network effect. Which means you need big money for marketing, content moderation and development costs. That includes algorithms, which maybe you don’t want, but most people do.
It’s not that I want a for profit company, I just don’t think Mastodon will every achieve critical mass without one.
It’s not the users, it’s the developers / investors. I’ve tried so many times to get into Mastodon, but it sucks compared to Bluesky. It lacks content and polish, so it’s no wonder everyday people choose Bluesky over it.
The real conundrum is why isn’t there a for profit company with big money behind it, investing in ActivityPub. I guess you could point to Threads? But insert your “not like that” meme of choice.
Fwiw, apparently Bluesky did initially look at activity pub, but found the protocol lacking, which is why they invented ATProto. I don’t know the details though.
No thanks, our conservatives are further to the left than your Democrats, and California has the population of the rest of Canada combined. You can make your own country
Not taking money from Google means Firefox dies. Straight up. There’s absolutely no amount of “focusing on the basics” or cutting executive salaries that would make up the deficit, not even close.
We all wish that wasn’t the case, me especially. But that’s the reality.
I mean… I still need to go into the dealer to update my 2021 Toyota software. And they certainly don’t provide updates for anything other than safety related issues.
Speak for yourself. I think that’s one of the things Tesla got right. Cars shouldn’t have features locked behind software updates though.
Yeah, it does. But I think the intent of “Magastan” is to draw a comparison to “those countries”. But this is stooping down to Trump’s level imo
Don’t sully the “-stan” countries like that, they don’t deserve that association.
It means it took a lot of time and money to gain vast sums of knowledge, but has no useful ways to apply it.
You can always do that manually when creating the post
True, but you won’t. You’ll click the button that automatically populates it instead.
I do think AI could enforce having a quick summary at a glance… if it was reliably accurate. But again, why do that and prevent traffic from going to the people who did all the work
Yeah, that’s why I don’t like the summary idea, because then even fewer people would click through. It also requires opening the comments which also most people won’t do.
I guess fewer people click through with less sensational headlines too, but at least they’re not mislead.
I know we all hate AI here… But getting an AI to rewrite headlines to de-sensationalize them sounds like a fantastic feature for a Lemmy client to implement. Just need mods to allow it
I can quit anytime. Right after I see what’s after the next blind.
Balatro
I’m guessing China has a separate client to comply with the law without needing to add backdoors for everyone else?
Seems strange that they were previously excluding those numbers either way.
Not really, he was already insanely popular before this. Just won a third majority a week ago, which is unheard of in Ontario politics. It’s more that he knows how to connect with people and the electorate is very gullible / willing to turn a blind eye.
With all this recent goodwill he’ll probably end up being our prime minister at some point shudder
Love this game! This is the same studio that did FTL. Two of my all time favourite roguelites.
Honestly, after reading some reviews I haven’t even watched it.
Fair enough! I haven’t seen any of those nor am I familiar with the source material. Maybe there’s hope yet
I’m setting up something similar using Unraid and VMs. This route would probably be more of a challenge for you technically… But if you’re willing to learn, and pay, Unraid sounds like it would be a good fit for what you’re trying to accomplish.
