The existing feature is that only subscribers will see it in feeds, but it can still be searched for or viewed manually. It’s not a private community feature. I’m just planning to add front-end access for the feature that already exists, so that admins don’t have to do API calls to use it.
I’ll see if there’s any existing discussions about private communities while I’m at it though, it might be something the main devs have an opinion on or plan for.
This actually already exists, it’s just not in the UI yet. Hiding communities can be done via the API. I was planning on putting in a PR to expose the functionality on the front-end at some stage.
OK, looks like my setup isn’t any different to yours, except that I have --security-opt=label=disable set too. The reason for this is because of this issue, which should be fixed by now. Your version may be too old?
If you get the same result from ausearch as on that issue, you may be seeing the same problem.

Maybe around 2006, I booted a live CD of Ubuntu and ran the 6 disc install of Unreal Tournament 2004 so that I could play UT with a friend who was staying over - the laptop was my mum’s, so I wasn’t allowed to install anything directly on it. UT2004 had a native Linux version on disc.
The install took until 4am and we played until the sun came up, absolute bliss getting it working.

You honestly won’t find better than the support for framework in the laptop space. The arch wiki entry for it is fantastic, and having multiple supported distros is almost unique.
Those are the officially supported distros. You can install other ones just fine. I doubt you’d find another laptop that had even just more than 1 officially supported distro.
Up and down votes are federated with your username, along with posts and comments (obviously).
Clicking on links, favourites, email address (if you put one in when signing up), password and IP address are all only on your local instance.
Basically, unless another server needs to know about it for federation to work, it’s going to be local to the instance you’re using.
If you want to avoid it happening, you can add a healthcheck to the postures service. Have a look online for docker healthchecks for postgres. That’ll let it ensure it’s actually ready to receive queries before dependencies start up.
OK, I’ve just realised something new - images pulled from websites as thumbnails are uploaded to the server and appear to be basically full sized, i.e.:

This image is on my server, but it’s just pulled from the website as a thumbnail. This doesn’t seem to be super consistent in how it’s handled - I’m continuing to look at what’s causing it and why it doesn’t seem to happen all the time.
EDIT: Seems like there’s more on there than I expected. Gonna continue digging.
I have the same issue, so if it persists after the rework, I’ll put an issue in for it and probably do a PR to fix it
A large change is coming to the UI to move away from websockets. I won’t be surprised if your issue is fixed once that happens. You can post an issue on the UI repo
Are they thumbnails? If not, perhaps this is configurable… I’ll check out my own images folder and see if it’s pulling them in, but it definitely shows the remote url for images when I’m viewing them on my instance.
As far as I can see, images aren’t federated, only a link to the image.
My understanding is that images don’t federate by default and you’ll load the image from whichever server it was uploaded to initially. Uploading an image here in the comment certainly does that:

There’s an issue already in place for this, but the Devs are currently focussed on finishing up a big rework of how the UI is implemented to help with load issues, so I wouldn’t expect it to change straight away.
The ban will only federate out if they’re banned from the instance they registered on - their home instance.
i.e. if badfaith@lemmy.ml is banned from beehaw.org, nothing would propogate out because they’re just banned from that instance.
However, if badfaith@lemmy.ml was banned from lemmy.ml, they can’t log in anymore - they’ve been banned from their home instance, so they can’t interact with any communities.
Unbanning them from your instance won’t make a difference either way. Because they can’t log in to their own instance, your unbanning will have no effect.

I need to do some experiments to find out what happens if a bot is tagged in a community they’re not subbed to. It may be that this is exactly what I can do - it’d be a request by a user, then the mod can ban it if they want. I don’t know whether I can do something where only a mod can invite, I’ll have to see if there’s anything that might help there
My favourite one is renaming a directory full of files in
nnn. It opens in vim, and I’m in my happy place, where I really know how to edit text (or, in this case, filenames). Great when there’s some minor variation between a lot of files. Full previewing before saving, multiple operations handled before doing anything etc.
