There was a time some years ago where I didn’t have wifi for several months. It was sometimes a hassle, sometimes oddly enjoyable and peaceful. Now it’s no longer an option for me, but I do sometimes just turn off the router and put devices into airplane mode on the weekends. But it’s not the same if you can so easily undo it.
Is this a Ben Shapiro reference?

Not sure if you’re referencing this intentionally? I love when the same thought can come up in different forms for different contexts.

Ah, I see the issue now. Parties get voted into the parliament. The government consists of a coalition of parties that together form a majority. The other parties form the opposition. Therefore, a single party can have many seats in the parliament, but still not be part of the government, if enough other parties coalise without them.
It’s the same take. They’re not in the government, and possibly never will be.
They would require a coalition with another big party, but all other established parties are strongly opposed to working with them, while being at least somewhat open to working with each other. From that perspective, the current voting predictions can be seen as 19% AfD vs 60% established parties (no longer counting FDP, lol). Still bad, but I think it’s reasonably likely that the other parties would keep coalising with each other and excluding the AfD.
Fortunately, AfD is not in the government and possibly never will be
Why would the absolute amount of money matter for investing vs. saving cash? Assuming he finds a broker for which absolute transaction fees are negligible, the only important factors should be time window and risk tolerance, both of which are independent of the absolute saving rate.
For me, it’s not about having good content that is not on reddit, but avoiding all kinds of bad content that is on reddit. I can scroll through the “top of the day” list of my subscriptions in a relatively short time and find many posts that I enjoy or that interest me. When I used reddit, there was always so much noise, ragebait, clickbait, sometimes interesting questions with only bland answers, etc.
Is this not just a (mildly oversimplified) framing of what psychologists call ego depletion [1]? This appears to be a well-replicated finding. I don’t see any reason to call it “wildly incorrect”.

This blog post summarizes the science nicely: https://scopeblog.stanford.edu/2023/10/30/a-conversation-about-the-science-of-willpower/ TL;DR: You can train your willpower. It does act like a limited resource. But most importantly, it is strongly affected by your sleep, nutrition and stress level.
I found that mindfulness meditation was helpful for me. Practically, you can achieve an effect that is similar to having strengthened willpower by organizing your life in such a way that you don’t encounter many temptations in the first place.
The very fact that they’re able to do all of this is also an effect of the mitochondria in their cells. But if people tell me to stop talking about mitochondria 24/7, then I should just find a group of other mitochondria enthusiasts to interact with instead of ranting about how I’m ““right”” to make everything about mitochondria.
who remakes the exact same meme immediately after it was just posted? I thought this place was supposed to be better than Reddit.
Sorry you have to go through that. Try not to let it get to you, but retain the ability to recognize constructive criticism.
