It peaked around 2015 or so and has been on a downward spiral since.

It is heping Plex by adding to their number of users and further justifying their enshitifcaiton.
The correct move is to uninstall it and use an alternative.
Accepting enshitifcaiton and the downward trend of the status quo is why we have enshitifcaiton and the downward trend of the status quo.
Companies know users will just accept shit rather than be mildly inconvenienced or uncomfortable for a bit while they learn something new, even if it’s a million times better.

The entire side service they’re they’ve been pushing where they want to inject their own streaming crap into the media server. The whole point of Plex used to be for you to host your own media collection, and was relatively hands-off. But sure, continue to support them by using the software and inflating their numbers. Don’t cry to me when better options crumble and all you’re left with is a completely enshitifed app, what do I know? Lmao

I don’t care about my Plex pass, I care about the basic service getting shit on. The pass was never meant to give me a premium product, it was meant to support the devs and give me a few minor feature perks.
I’ve used Plex since 2009-2010. I’ve watched it change into the trash it is becoming. People should trash it and move to Jellyfin.

I’ve been using Plex form 2009-2010 and have watched it slowly enshitify. The purpose of the software was to allow people to host their own media server and making it accessible anywhere. The pass was a nice way to thank the devs and get some small perks. Now it seems like they are yet again stripping features from basic users.
The op’s stance of “I have a pass so it doesn’t affect me” is further supporting and encouraging the enshitifcaiton of what used to be a good service for anybody. Jellyfin seems to be the way to go now.

You’re saying you bought a pass, fuck all the people that didn’t buy a pass. Sure other people could buy a pass, but why would you want to encourage them to do that and incentivize the further enshitifcaiton of Plex?

This is total “fuck you, got mine” energy. You’re part of the problem. As somebody else who owns a Plex pass, I’m done with their bullshit. I downloaded Plex as a way to serve my content to my devices. These morons lost their way a while ago and became a dump, and clearly it’s not getting any better.
Hopefully this latest big-brain move of theirs drives more users off their shit platform to one that’s better.
But you have a Plex pass, so I’m sure it won’t affect you when the money disappears and the company folds lol.

I regret buying a Plex pass years ago when the project was still pretty good. I wanted to support the devs, but now I hope that they continue to develop this shit app so they don’t move on to ruin things like Jellyfin.

That’s not my point. My point is, they try Zorin, they don’t like it, and now they go on about how much Linux sucks as they run back to Windows. I highly doubt many of them will bother distro-hopping. As far as must users will be concerned, they tried Linux and it sucked. They’re almost definitely not going to want to spend more time redoing their system a bunch until they find one they like, nor are they going to want to spend the time with dotfiles getting it the way they want.
If they did research on other distros before installing Zorin, they probably wouldn’t have gone with Zorin…
They’re riding a bandwagon, not setting their own path.

Some of them might. But I wouldn’t put too much faith in them, though.

So essentially, a bunch of them are going to try this and be disappointed and then go on to shit all over Linux as a whole…

Meh, I guess they don’t want any reviews then… Sucks to suck, sales will drop and they have nobody to blame but themselves

Whooooa, I had no idea Arduino sold out. I thought this was about RaspberryPi for some reason at first, but this is even worse.
The enshitifcaiton was guaranteed the second the ink touched that paper.

I’m with you - if a program does a good job of what it’s set out to do, why avoid it because of a dumb name or less than stellar UI?

To paraphrase Brian Lunduke: This software has gone woke! That software has gone woke! Boo woke software!
What trouble? archinstall makes it dead simple to get on your computer, then at that point it’s not much different from any other distro?
I’d sooner ask why people choose shit like Ubuntu where you’re stuck dealing with snaps out-of-date packages, and bloat.
I used Debian and Ubuntu for like 20 years and just got sick of packages being forever out of date, and the Archwiki always having exactly what I needed.

But I thought Mac was just Linux for people who loved to spend money… Seems on brand to me.
Nope, in fact I got good at IT shit because it seldom worked and I had to do the work of troubleshooting and figuring things out. And times were better because we had that ability.
There’s been this stupid drive of “user friendliness” = removing useful power features from software.
Now everybody just expects things to work, and they don’t care about having any ability to learn about it or fix it, and we’re all paying for it. Things are likely getting shittier over time specifically because of people refusing to learn and accepting “If it doesn’t work, I guess I need to buy a new thing”. Fuck that line of thinking - if it’s digital, it can be done eventually. It’s just a case of figuring out how, or waiting a bit for hardware to get to the point where it can be done.
