I agree, especially since parts are easily available from Ifixit. If something goes wrong with a used deck out of warranty there is good change you can fix it and still come out ahead.

Nice! Does the onscreen keyboard work in the login screen? If it doesn’t it probably will soon. My understanding is that the wayland onscreen keyboard issues have been fixed really recently.

I was mostly just testing if I could use it without a keyboard and mouse. Which has not been the case with other distros I have tried. It’s mostly firefox and the login screen having issues with the onscreen keyboard and the UI not scaling or accecpting touch input well that has been my problem with linux on a tablet.

Yeah, I firefox and the login screen didn’t work well with the onscreen keyboard when I tried fedora. I ended up using it with the keyboard attahed. That’s why I was so excited when everything worked with PostmarketOS.

No, if I figure out pmbootstrap and make a custom image I will try to get the custom kernel in. So far everything but the cameras seem to work.

I don’t think they need pairing. It just worked for me. It’s a generic one off amazon. The Microsoft one I got with the tablet broke after a month and the replacement one also broke after a month. I’m still kind of mad about it like 4 year later.

So far it seems really good. I haven’t tested it to much though.

I messed around with home assistant and the ollama integration. I have passed on it and just use the default one with voice commands I set up. I couldn’t really get ollama to do or say anything useful. Like I asked it what’s a good time to run on a treadmill for beginners and it told me it’s not a doctor.

I think you can just use a wide angle lens and convex mirror to get the same effect. Like a rear view car mirror or security mirror. I found image on google showing how it works.

It says pick all squares that contain street light so it counts because it contains part of a street light. I get these wrong like 50 percent of the time so IDK.

Mine seems to have plenty of capacity left but has trouble powering my xr glasses below 60% if I’m gaming. Also if it’s cold it will shut off under load until it’s warmed up. I got mine really early around May 2022 I think.

At first I was like WTF but actually it makes sense. A screen showing an error code is much better than a hard reset, blinking cursor, kernel panic, or just black screen you usually get when something bad happens on linux.

It’s hard to recommend because sometimes with cheaper laptops they have weird wifi chip sets, audio chip sets, and stuff for controlling the lcd back light, f-keys, etc… Also sometimes they have weird way to boot into the boot menu that may not be well documented. I don’t really know what brand or models should be avoided though.

Yeah, I should be more clear. I’m talking about laptops that the manufacture openly supports or ships a linux distro with it. I just assume OP already knows he can do a bit of research and get a decent $300 laptop from like lenovo/acer/hp/dell/etc… and install linux on it.

Unfortunately, the new FOSS linux laptop scene is basically the pine book pro for less then $250 or Framework/System76/Tuxedo for greater than $900 with nothing in-between.

Nah, usually some of the lights are out and there is mushy spots on the ceiling.

I know right! I hate that so much new tech needs an app and will lose functionality/stop working if the company stop supporting it or you phone stop working with the app.

The app is ios only and you need to buy hepa bags every week for it. Those kind of kill it for me.
