Summit County (Akron) Ohio. It’s $1.25 now, but I think $1 per ride was the rate then. No free transfers, but all busses meet at the courthouse so that didn’t matter.

I’ve answered a jury duty summons, but never even got to voir dire.
- Get summoned by mail.
- Check website or call ahead to see if you need to show up.
- I check website. It’s owned by domain squatters.
- I call number, recording says go to courthouse tomorrow morning.
- Take bus because I don’t want to deal with downtown parking.
- Check in to juror waiting room. Get jury number. It’s high.
- Can we validate your parking? No but you could reimburse me a dollar for bus fare.
- LOL. We don’t do that. The bus. LOL.
- I tell clerk about their website. They know. They lost it last year. (But still direct unsuspecting citizens to it?)
- Okay everybody. We have enough jurors and the rest of y’all can go home now.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How does a teenager learn to "eat out" a woman without doing it like a dog at a water bowl?English
3·4 months agoYou don’t need that sort of instructions, just vague feedback on what’s good and what isn’t is sufficient. Do more stuff like what got good feedback and less stuff like what got bad feedback. Think of it as AI training set and hope you have enough I to learn without the A.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•US Energy Secretary: “I'm thrilled to report that tomorrow morning, on July 4th, we will end subsidies for wind and solar projects”English
7·4 months agoOne neat thing about solar and wind energy, that might have national security implications in light of recent events, is that it’s really hard to blockade.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can a puzzle with missing pieces be considered complete?English
5·5 months agoIf she’s used all the pieces and solved enough to reverse engineer the shape of all the missing pieces, then it is fully solved. If the missing pieces cannot be individually identified due to shared edges, then it is still solved, but is no longer a 1000 piece puzzle and she should only claim to have solved the 999 or 998 piece subpuzzle.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How would you actually tax the ultra wealthy?English
5·7 months agoSo someone with an income of $1M (20A) has a tax liability of $2M, and earning $10M means you owe $200M? At least with traditional tax brackets, it’s hard (but not impossible) to accidently get marginal rates over 100%.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How come in American classrooms they make another language an elective. Why not teach our kids as many languages possible that way if we go somewhere we will kind of have uper hand?English
3·8 months agoThe college I graduated from required a year of foreign language for graduation – actually take it and pass, not just test out of it.
OK, that’s not quite true. For some reason, the mathematics department was grouped with the languages for purposes of this requirement, so you could take a year of calculus in lieu of a foreign language if you preferred.
Unless you were a math major. Classes in your major didn’t count, so all math majors absolutely had to take a foreign language.
Unless you were a dual major like math-physics. Dual majors could apply classes from both majors towards distribution requirements. I knew several “math” majors who took just enough physics classes to qualify as a dual major for the express purpose of not having to study a language.
Sometimes I walk around town late at night. Last week I saw a guy with a sleeping bag napping in the park gazebo. He wasn’t bothering me or anyone, so I just let him be.
