  • 1 reason is that they want as much data as possible. They sell the user data. Or they use the user data to improve their targeted advertising. They want more ad clicks.

Re app versus site, many know how to block ads on browsers. With an app, the firm is hoping they can show you ads. Ads can be removed from some apps but the layperson doesn’t know.

Your Sync is still 👍 so I suggest staying.

My Voyager’s been smooth. Also, I finally have the crosspost feature. Sync doesn’t have it. I prefer Voyager’s implementation of crosspost over the Lemmy site’s implementation. By “Lemmy site” I mean going to lemmy.world on my 💻’s browser.

  • Phones are like 💻 now. The year-to-year improvements are tiny. Some factors related to this –

At least for folks like me who sometimes read re chips, chip improvements are 👍. But big year-to-year improvements are probably hard. If it was easy, Apple or Qualcomm may have already designed a chip that was 2 or 3 times faster than the old 1.

So hard to have a clean implementation of under-screen cam and face recognition sensors. Hence, hole punch. Samsung fold has an under-screen front cam but the implemention wasn’t clean and the pic quality is below average.

So hard to make a 🔋 that’s 2 or 3 times better than the old 🔋. The tech world has been so hungry for a 🔋 innovation for a long time. There was optimism re graphene. Idk if it’ll succeed in mass production.

  • Valve doesn’t organize majors anymore right? I’m not monitoring the Dota 2 news so Idk. I know Valve didn’t do a pro circuit point system for 2024. Then they said they were still focused on The international. Why did they give the keys to PGL? It’s already so :( that they don’t do True sight anymore. Dota 2 probably isn’t high on the list of their profit sources but I hope they’ll still care enough.

  • Didn’t play Alan Wake 1 and 2 but I viewed the AW1 “let’s play” of @welonz and the AW2 “let’s play” of @coxclips. Just wanna share my thoughts re AW2. There are spoilers below.

So much reading. Yes, you can skip a lot of those. Yes, the title is Alan Wake 2 and Wake is a writer. But a gamer who very much dislikes reading may be turned off or think “I may be missing much by skipping most of the reading, so I’ll drop AW2.”

It seems Alice is alive. So she’s been living sans Alan for 13 years minimum. Extremely :(. I wanted a :) end for them. I can imagine an AW2 where the year is 2013 instead of 2023, and Alan was able to escape the “dark place” in 2013 and live with Alice happily. The writer (I dislike Sam Lake’s writing so I’m not saying Sam Lake) can figure out the plot gymnastics in between to make the game so interesting.

Scratch slew Jaakko Koskela so easyyy. So powerful. He could just slay Anderson, Casey, Cult of the tree and the Fbc at the start.

The Fbc’s light arrays placed far from each other outside the sheriff’s station were plot convenience.

Anderson aided Wake with writing the end despite Wake inserting Logan and David in the tale. 😑

Sarah and Barry were sidelined. :(

Sam Lake most likely disliked a fairy-tale :) end for AW2 but don’t say “In horror, the hero must pay a price to save his pals.” (or something like that) like it’s a rule.

    It’s time.com’s best 2023 game but it’s 👎 for me.

  • Didn’t view the show. Didn’t read the article. I just went to Wikipedia to see the winners. For me Oppenheimer is 1 of the top flicks of the decade. I’m :) for everyone behind that flick. I’m :) with the decisions Nolan made. No composite character for scientists. Black and white for the Lewis Strauss things. Sticking with practical effects for the Trinity test even if it was hard. (I think this is 1 of the 👍 marketing things for the flick. Tell the public no cgi in the flick.) He didn’t shorten the flick to, say, 2 h and 15 min, which would probably make the studio gladder. (My idea is Infinity war and Endgame showed that a long flick can earn much. Are studios more accepting of long flicks now?)

Cillian Murphy’s and Downey Jr.'s acting were 👍 so I wasn’t :o that they won.

It was 👍 that Jennifer Lame won Best film editing. The flick was nonlinear temporally so 👎 editing could easily screw it up. Lame edited it such that it was easy to follow despite the nonlinearity.
