I work for warehouse automation too. It absolutely works. Its just very carefully, meticulously planned. Every tiny edge case is accounted for. Hell. We measure the floor for difference in height to the mm where 3 is a big issue.

There’s lot of types of warehouse automation outside of a robot skating on the ground picking up pallets or cases or anything. As in, there are certainly automation systems that work alongside people or other different bots that absolutely thrash the throughput of a typical warehouse operation
Walmart merely made a number of very stupid decisions when entering the automation game, but to them its drops in a bucket. They’ll just move on to the next one

Sci fi and lds man. Yeah, I looked it up and was very disappointed. I had never looked up anything about him personally before that

Omg… About to go find out why I should stop reading Orson Scott Card… Thanks a ton OP.

Of course youre right, but we have to opt out of tracking at every level today. Thats the way we collectively allowed the goalpost to be moved.
Now, do they respect the opt out? Thats the real question

That is true, but not what was pointed out. Who rents out homes then, it not companies or landlords? I fully agree companies should not own homes. And also believe rent should be pinned to purchase price value +x% per year something. And landlords should not be able to own more than a certain number of dwelling units.
But then who rents out the temporary homes, or homes for people who just don’t want to own for a reason

Jesus Christ, the man was well liked by his country. Its not the time or the place for that. Ffs, its not even been 6 hours

In the past 25 years ive been an avid coffee drinker, its rare I’ll be at a diner and look at the price of coffee. It should be between 2 and 4 bucks (for a good cup, like local roasted).
Now if they go and get the same cup again tomorrow, thats on them.

Not defending the price of a cup of coffee at all, but as someone who roasts their own coffee (both cause I love the process and am a cheap bastard), its only fair to point out the price of green beans is almost exactly double the price it was 3 years ago.
Again, plenty of ways to slice the astronomic price, but at the end of the day I would only half blame the restaurant here on the mark up

I make it in a food processor once every 2 weeks or so. Thats it. I buy salted peanuts, so literally just dump the bag of peanuts into the thing, hit the button and watch for about 5 minutes

I work in robotics, but not humanoid. What is driving demand for humanoid robots? It feels like a gimmick to me.

China’s humanoid robot makers commanded more than 97% of global shipments in the first half of 2026, according to new industry data affirming the country’s early lead against US rivals in the burgeoning field.
Global humanoid robot shipments totaled roughly 19,100 units in the first half of 2026, more than triple the 5,100 units shipped in the same period last year, according to data from Smart Analytics Global. The California-based research firm expects shipments to rise to around 60,000 units this year and reach half a million by 2030
This is a summary. It was the only way I could find to bypass the paywall

Newly disclosed records reveal the US government extensively spied on prominent leftwing organizations and on protesters as part of a vast operation into groups opposing the immigration crackdown in Minnesota earlier this year.
Internal investigative reports show the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sent undercover agents to community meetings in the Twin Cities and New York City, infiltrated Signal chats and obtained financial records of mainstream unions and left-leaning non-profit groups.
Nearly 30 internal law enforcement reports were released on Thursday as part of a criminal case the Department of Justice (DoJ) has filed against 15 Minneapolis protesters. The defendants are accused of a “conspiracy” to “impede” US immigration officers during the Trump administration’s surge in the region.
The DHS investigative reports were disclosed by the government and submitted to the court by an attorney for one of the defendants. The records show that in January, DHS launched an inquiry called “Operation Puppet Master” to identify a “network of conspirators” organizing against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The operation came as community organizing against ICE was swelling in the region in response to the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
A DHS report from February said the agency was looking into people who were “providing material support to violent opportunists and agitators”. The records suggest agents launched elaborate spying efforts targeting activists, protesters and mainstream progressive organizations opposing the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
“I was shocked at the scope and the apparent lack of investigative discipline involved, but not totally surprised,” said Kevin Riach, an attorney for one of the indicted protesters, who filed the tranche of records in federal court.
DHS spokespeople did not respond to inquiries and the DoJ declined to comment.

I don’t AAA game, but haven’t run into a single issue with a game running on Linux…
Same could be said for using a saw, or electricity.
If its designed correctly, conforms to safety requirements, there is no real risk to human health.
Of course a not can always crash, but that should be accounted for and tested against much like go carts on a track
