  • Definitely agree that the inventors are often given too much focus rather than a gradual evolution of ideas and discoveries over time that a much wider number of people made significant contributions to.

There are big leaps in understanding at times that do deserve to be recognised, Newton, Euler and Einstein definitely fit with this.

There is a really good series about the evolution of science and technology from the 1980s called Connections, from the BBC. Brilliant show and well worth a watch, it shows how technology evolves through chance and circumstances in so many cases rather than someone seeing a problem to be solved and thinking of a clever solution

  • It was never going to stop.

Hold up, now you’re mixing in made up stuff with a few facts. Yes there is less glaciation since the last glacial maximum when there were huge ice sheets across continents. No it was not inevitable to continue retreating indefinitely without human intervention, that is simply not true at all.

There have been cycles of maxima/minima over the last few million years, and humans have likely contributed to a warmer period since the beginning of agriculture. But the most recent period of warming due to fossil fuel burning over the last few hundred years is way off the charts from historical trends

  • Yes, the key aspects of 2.5D are that two things cannot be on top of each other, the world is entirely described by a 2D map, along with a height value for each floor and each object (these are separate). Jumping and looking are just not features included in the original game, but they are not defining properties of 2.5D, they could have been coded in and still be 2.5D

You can go up and down on lifts in doom, there is a height property that changes, and if you step off a ledge you fall in an arc to the ground. If an object is in front of the ledge somewhere at ground level you will collide with it even if you are higher, so eg if you are trying to jump across somewhere a mob far below can cut your jump short and you fall to the ground.
