  • A perm. I wanted one so bad back in the 80s. Luckily my hairdresser, who was my whole family’s hairdresser and a friend too, refused. She was a tiny Thai lady who was a force of nature, had a little half basement salon in DC. We would all go and get our hair cut together, I think mostly because there was a pub nearby my dad could go have drinks at while he waited for us.

I’m sure that her reasoning was sound in that it would destroy my hair, but I also think both her and my mom knew how terrible it would look since I’m lazy af and wouldn’t style it. Over the years I’ve only ever dyed my hair a handful of times, never curled or straightened it, no product as I can’t stand the feeling of it. I think it’s helped keep it healthy and now as I’m hitting later 40s and finally know how to really care for it (and have a hairdresser that understands my curls), it’s FABULOUS. Very little grey, big curls and ringlets. It’s the hair I’ve always wanted. Still don’t do shit to it lol. Lazy ftw!

  • I am on a 6834 game win streak in spider solitaire. This wasn’t all this year, but this is where I am now. Out of 9215 games I’ve lost 3 times, twice at the beginning when I didn’t realize you could undo the whole game and start again, and one when my phone glitched. It’s a small easily achievable goal when my life/brain is too much. I don’t think I’ll make 10k games before new years, but that’s ok. Shout out to Digital Smoke for making a solitaire app that doesn’t track you.

  • Absolutely it is! The whole Nutcracker is amazing. The best production of it is hands down the Pacific Northwest Ballets version, with the sets and costumes by Maurice Sendak. I’ve watched it every Xmas since I was a kid. My grandparents gave me a VHS of it when it first came out. I’ve had to do surgery on it when the tape came off one end, still works. You can find it on YouTube, it’s the only thing I’ve bought from them lol.

I got to see it in person in Seattle while I was pregnant with my daughter. I totally cried.
