very pleasing photo
thanks! glad to hear some folks enjoy the little bonus shots

great shot, such a cool bokeh. almost makes you feel like you’re underwater.
that’s odd, i never realized my avif uploads weren’t displaying correctly in mastodon. i think if you view the original post in a web browser, it will display the image.
i think the change would have been minimal, but for the coastline shot i should’ve gone with f4 or so for a marginally sharper shot and to better guarantee that the entire length of the coastline is in focus.
looking back at the exif data, it was 1/2000 f1.7 at 200 iso (automatic, lowest iso for my camera). definitely could have afforded to stop down a little to hit my lens sharpness sweet spot, though i wouldn’t learn about that until months after this shot.
when i first got these primes, i definitely made the beginner mistake of shooting almost everything wide open. it’s true that m43 sensors probably need all the light it can get, but there were plenty of scenarios where that’s just not needed.
here are two examples shot about 2 weeks before the ones in the post, also cluelessly in f1.7 that suffer from a narrow dof:

it wasn’t until much later when i saw these zoomed in on larger screens that i realized using f1.7 was a mistake here. ya live and learn.
really like this shot. i’d love to just spend a day and roam around in this area.
i’ve realized i just took a picture of a lightbulb color temperature chart
just means we’ll have to appropriate it harder to take it back
sweet shot. god im such a sucker for bisexual lighting
i bet that feels really good

i actually think i failed to capture just how large the moon seemed in person. i took a number of shots to try and frame the scene differently, but the moon’s position was still a bit too high to punch in while also effectively including the landscape to establish perspective. if the socal smog weren’t there and if i waited an hour or so, the shot probably could’ve been better with the moon closer to the horizon. ah well, live and learn
one of the subtle pain points of federated social media… every instance seems to have a different image hosting configuration. i originally tried to use my blahaj account to post here but it kept eating my uploads :(
great shot though! cool to see all the little details in the full size image. that bridge is one of the most scenic city bridges i’ve ever crossed by car, especially at night!
watching the fog silently drift through the trees has always been a magical experience. i would love to move up to the pnw some day.
honestly i love the fogged up version. i occasionally like to shoot with a black mist filter and less saturation though, so maybe im more biased towards bloom-heavy shots

thank you!

also, another bonus just for fun because i like how creepy it turned out. taken with my phone at the second ski lift along devil’s backbone trail at 3:16 in the morning
also reuploaded to jpeg because wow pictrs avif recompression mangled the hell out of the details

great iq in this shot. what do you use?

hey buddy, i think you might be looking in the wrong direction
