I have tried to run the helper script in the following directories: /srv/lemmy /srv/lemmy/instance name

but neither time was 12_15.dump.sql produced, so I guess I am trying to run the helper script in the wrong directory.

Can anybody tell me the correct directory to run it in?

Where do I find this “lemmy docker directory” given I have used the ansible install in the past?

I am asking because I have tried running the helper script in the place where I thought I should be and it did not work

Good news - I fixed this issue prior to the upgrade

I love how that puts the power in the hands of the user where it belongs

So as an individual user, with V0.17 it looks like I can choose which communities and users I personally want to block. Is that correct?

I still have not been able to fix this problem.

I see V0.17 makes some changes to images - would the upgrade solve the problem for me?

If not, should I set up a new instance and export the database from my existing instance and import into the new? If so, any tips on how I would do this?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help you have provided so far - if nothing else I learnt some stuff.

I ran the up command with force recreate and seem to be back to where I started. Instance working except images no displaying

so what should I do now?

Should I restore the backup from before I ran the recreate command or do something else?

I ran the force-recreate option.

Now when I go to the instance I get a spinning wheel where the posts would normally appeal. I am assuming this is just rebuilding all the pages and may take some time? Would take be correct?

While it is not displaying images from my instance it does from communities that are federated from other instances e.g. https://exploding-heads.com/c/encryption@community.hackliberty.org

I did the docker-compose restart. It is still not working.

So I went to post a test image so the logs would show what happens and I got this error in the UI

SyntaxError: Unexpected token ‘R’, “Request er”… is not valid JSON

Quick question.

Can you nest communities? e.g. Could you have a group call “Crypto Currencies” and nest communities for the different currencies under it? Or could you have a group called Europe and nest the different countries underneath it?

I would love to see a Blog front end for Lemmy.

Did you know wolfballs and lemmy.ml federated for a long time?

Do we know why they stopped federating? It might be a useful exercise to find out why and how Lemmy can be improved to allow them to federate again. Especially as you said they are both active in the software development - it seems to be the perfect opportunity to workout how to remove a roadblock to Lemmy’s growth.

It also demonstrates another shortfall is this entire instance blocking system. If Lemmy.ml has blocked wolfballs, then the owner of the wolfballs instance cannot even participate in this discussion to help work out a better way forward.

Out of interest, do you know who blocked who first? Was it a tit for tat response? You blocked me, so I am blocking you?
