User caps might be a good way to decentralize and ensure that we don’t end up with just a few mega-instances. If there were a page showing available instances with percent of max users then people could use that when selecting.
Since communities (aka subreddits) are hosted on different servers (instances) I thought I would need a separate account on each instance to be able to post them (kept getting “not logged in” message).
Once I actually read the instructions everything was good. One account (choose the instance you want) and then use search … but you must enter the remote instance url exactly as written… no wildcats or anything.

I spent a few hours searching for communities that matched my reddit subs. So far there’s not too much there but I’ll certainly try to do my part to change that.

Temporary is fine if it buys us the time to make the switch to permanent and sustainable carbon neutrality. The problem now is that rate of progress toward net zero is far below where it should be. Wishful thinking won’t change that .
