This is like a daytime robbery.

Ah ha, but it’s all worth it tho! Am I right?
Am I right…?
…
🙁

Both of you are Gods among men. The rest of us are not worthy.

And before anyone corrects me, yes I know the US public education system sucks, but I do believe social media use among children and young adults is having a seriously negative influence on the more vulnerable students.

Banning smart phones in class is a no brainer if you want students to actually pay attention in class. But I’m baffled that they actually expected this ban to meaningfully improve test results.
Getting good grades involves doing your homework, prepping for tests, getting enough sleep to maintain your focus. All of which are done outside the classroom. If social media addiction is really the cause of plummeting school results, them banning phones inside the classroom is not going to solve the problem.
That’s like telling a junkie he can’t do drugs in class, but he can get his heroin back after school.

Haters gonna hate. Imo, the Hyundai Testarossa looks absolutely gorgeous 🚙

It’s an absolute travesty. Trump exploited the plea for help from ordinary Iranians to serve his own ego. In doing so he not only destroyed their livelihoods, but also any chance they had of political change. Everyone involved should be deeply ashamed of themselves.

Movie director: ‘Because of AI, I no longer need actors anymore’
Film producer: ‘Because of AI, I no longer need writers and directors anymore’
AI Companies ‘Because of AI, I no longer need movie studios anymore’
Public: ‘Because of AI, I no longer need to bother with movies anymore’
🙁

Oracle completely missed the jump to cloud and, like Informatica or SAS, it’s been outcompeted by the likes of Microsoft, Google, Snowflake and Amazon for years now.
But hey, that’s not going to go down well with the shareholders, so just say you’re cutting jobs because you’re streamlining your business through the marvels of AI…
That said, who exactly are the people that are being let go? I can imagine the old guard still working at ‘their’ company, but firing young engineers hardly seems like a winning strategy

Why can’t the UK just deal with Iran directly? Why pander to an ungrateful US?

He couldn’t care less. They probably told him to calm the markets instead.

Just that, what a fucking idiot…
What a complete fucking moron…

Trump expects the world to go to war with Iran. What will actually happen is that the world will re-establish diplomacy with Iran and offer sanctions relief to end the blockade.
Without war reparations, American ships will forever be barred from sailing the strait, and Gulf states will likely start distancing themselves from the US and re-assess hosting American bases and troops.
Trump’s victory looks an awful lot like a strategic defeat that sees the US pull out of the Middle East and leave Iran in a more powerful position then before.

Right now it is in the interest of other NATO countries to see the US weakened militarily and politically. The US stopped being an ally as soon as Trump threatened to annex Canada and Greenland.

Are you suggesting OpenAI and others like it might actually be…
…overvalued?! 🫢

Not just a security disaster, but a disaster for performance, testing, lifecycle management etc.
I don’t think people realize just how amazingly stupid it is to outsource your core business to an LLM, unless your software company was a get rich quick scheme to begin with (which is surprisingly common btw).

Not a programmer myself, but I don’t believe for a second that LLM’s will replace programmers.
Altman’s bullshitting on social media is just marketing. Don’t believe for a second that this guy actually speaks truth or even knows what he’s talking about.
However, I do believe that a lot of executives are gullible enough to fall for this vibe-coding scam and kill their business. I also believe we’re going to see a tsunami of racketeers selling broken products.
Why even have this discussion? Self-learning algorithms appeared more than ten years ago. AI is being used very effectively in countless areas.
The idea that there is some sort of prize waiting for whomever gets the most computing power, is highly dubious.
