Who said I’m offended? Not everyone who critiques something or someone is “offended” you know.
I’m also on Mastodon: https://mastodon.social/@not3ottersinacoat

You’ve said it better than I

Why is the title phrased like you’re asking chatgpt? It feels strangely cold and disrespectful.
I mean I don’t, but it’s also been like a decade since I last borked my Linux install. Because I read instructions, and outputs, and don’t blindly copy-paste commands, etc. etc.
Whether or not domestication in the first place was ethical can be argued, but in my view somewhat irrelevant now - in the world we live in now there are millions of cats, dogs, and others who are in need of a home and adopting/rescuing is a morally good thing to do. I would even go further and say those of us with the means have a moral obligation to do so.
Posts like yours do absolutely nothing to help.
edit: and I also often wonder if accounts like yours are a psyop to make vegans and animal defenders look bad.

I use Cinnamon but Gnome would be my second choice. I want to like Plasma, but every time I’ve used it there’s some glaring bug. Last I checked (few months back) font scaling caused fonts to look like absolute garbage. I found the bug online, tried all the “fixes”, no bueno.
I’m not going without scaling on a 14" 1080p screen.
Cinnamon and Gnome on the other hand: accessibility > large text. Easy. (Higher scaling factors can be found in font settings if needed).

Guess my Canadian trans ass is boycotting the UK now too. It’s been a long time coming anyway, Terf Island.
(Sorry Scotland, you’re cool but also in a toxic relationship I can’t be around right now. I hope we can be friends again some day)

LMDE is <3

Mint has an “Action” for that, what does that make me?

I use LMDE because I’m lazy, cranky, and it just works.

Shenmue is a masterpiece and I absolutely adore it.

Beneath A Steel Sky (though I kinda prefer the grungier aesthetic of the Amiga floppy version)
I’m happy with my routine. Simple, quick.
For backing up my home folder, I just plug in my external drive and use rsync from the terminal, like so (change to your user name; mine is gecko. Double check the paths and edit as necessary)
rsync -av /home/gecko/ /media/gecko/media/emmahomebackup/ --delete --dry-run (test first, check for errors at the end of output, there shouldn’t be any unless you messed up the paths)
then,
rsync -av /home/gecko/ /media/gecko/media/emmahomebackup/ --delete
This command will back up your home folder the first time you run it, and on subsequent runs will sync any changes that have occured since the last run.
To restore, reverse the paths.
For backing up my system files (basically, everything outside of my home folder) I just use Timeshift.
Config files for programs are in hidden folders in ~ (as you discovered) OR in ~/.config OR in ~/.local/share (yeah it’s a bit of a mess)
Config files for flatpaks can be found under ~/.var/app (usually, some flatpaks have permissions to write outside that directory).

Fedora benefits Red Hat. It’s upstream. I’ll avoid what I can, especially something so obvious.

Counterpoint: Fedora is a testing bed for Red Hat. One of Red Hat’s notable customers is the US military. I’d prefer to stay off that path if I can help it. It’s a matter of trust, and it’s a matter of indirectly contributing. I’ve seen people say the same things about Deepin and everyone nods in agreement, but why the hell should I trust a US project, for the same reasons?

Emulation, mostly RetroArch, on Linux. Logitech F310 for older 8 and 16-bit systems, PS5 Dualsense for PS1 era and up. ScummVM standalone version though.
