I’ve never heard a “metal head” call AC/DC metal. They are part of that group of hard rock musicians like KISS and Alice Cooper that got lumped in to metal in the 70s and 80s primarily because of their style.

I feel like some people take the stance that any heavy music they like is metal and any heavy music they don’t like is not. I’m not someone who gets up in arms about people calling Slipknot metal and consider myself to be fairly flexible on my definition of metal but every band you listed is hard rock.

Metal is like porn, I know it when I see it. But there are some tricky ones like djent. Meshuggah “sounds like” metal to me while some of the instrumental bands like Arch Echo and Scale the Summit are some of my favorites but don’t really have any metal riffs or song structure. I don’t really know what to call them.

You can’t just install an arbitrary Linux distro on an Android tablet.

If you want to run Linux, buy something like the Juno or Librem tablets.

For the first point… kind of but not really. Having an account on a second small instance still gives you the backup, and if one of the two goes down you can create an account on another instance as a new backup.

For the defederation, nah. I like lemdro.id because they haven’t really defederated from anyone except for spam instances, and they’re small enough that no one has targeted them for defederation.

Two main reasons…

• As a backup in case your home instance goes down.
• If there are instances your home instance is defederated from and the other instance is not.

That’s about it.

So if Google sold its phones at a loss then Epic would have no problem paying the fee? Sure.

The more interesting part of the argument is saying that people will contact Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony for technical support with a game and expect them to help while Apple or Google would send you to the developer.

I think there are two big reasons…

• During the big Reddit exodus, a lot of people were recommending lemmy.world.
• It’s a general purpose instance. People tend to flock to those rather than more specific topical instances.

Don’t be afraid to customize your install with YaST. You can add/remove packages before you do the installation.

As many others have said, the choice is not between antiperspirant and nothing. I use deodorant but no antiperspirant.

Not a new discovery, but I rediscovered Torchlight 1 and 2. The Steam Deck controls make it a lot smoother to play than a mouse.

We have three. One in the kitchen, one in the master bedroom and one in the garage. We also have fire escape ladders in the two occupied bedrooms.

I had to use one recently as our trash can caught fire. We had some towels we had used to oil our griddle and they must have still been hot when we threw them away.

You can’t really test a fire extinguisher as it loses pressure when you discharge it.

I mean I’m not going to judge anyone for their opinion, but it’s just a fairly unique one. Mastodon rose to prominence as pioneers of blending sludge and progressive metal along with Baroness. When they released Remission and Leviathan there were no other bands out there that sounded like them.

Their new stuff is still solid, but when I listen to Hushed and Grim I feel like it’s very derivative of alt metal from the late nineties, though still with Mastodon’s great musicianship.

I’ve just never heard someone say they’re a “big mastodon fan” and really only enjoy their latest albums - it’s interesting.

Have you listened to their albums? Do you feel compelled to listen to them again? None of us can tell you if you like them or not.
