There is one thing that I forgot. Von der Leyen deleted the messages with the Pfizer CEO about the vaccine delivery contracts. She left Germany with a scandal about consulting contracts.

The existing structure allowed the establishment of a corrupt politician. It suggests that there is deep seated corruption if she could be elected despite the scandal.

The extreme right shouldn’t be the only platform that demands a change.

I can’t imagine that the EU would actually try to finance itself with tariffs. Free trade is what allows for specialization and thus greater prosperity for everybody.

The usage would be that the EU becomes independend from its states. Now the states have some leverage to at least deny further funding if the EU reduces their power.

Weimar was a small civil war between soldiers who returned from WW1. That’s why both the left and the right had fighters. Where should the fighters who shoot the bullets come from now?

The fascists came to power because the elite feared that the communists could win. Otherwise, despite massive manipulation, the fascists never got an absolute majority.

There are many issues that other parties simply ignore. There would be far less voteres for the AfD if the other parties would listen. The AfD started with the demand that the rules about euro stability shouldn’t be ignored. That’s not a fascist position.

I agree. It was lawful, but shows that the system is not transparent and doesn’t reveal the real motivations. Before EU is integrated further, or gets more power like an army, the structure should be improved.

The interesting thing about tariffs is that the EU keeps most of the tariff income. Likewise does the president. This is the perfect opportunity to make both the presidential as well as the EU budget independent of parlamentarian oversight by financing it with tariffs.

I also don’t believe that the specific ups and downs were planned, especially not the exact timing.

But the introduction of the tariffs was known.

This is the show for the people. The tariffs were discussed in Davos in January and were mentioned in the Washington Post in 2023. Project 2025 exists for some years. The leaders know, the journalists know, and yet, everybody was surprised when it happened.

They pretend to be surprised and likewise, they would have objected much much stronger before, if the allies wouldn’t accept what is happening.

It’s the choice between American or Chinese hegemony. For traditional reasons, the EU could be inclined to choose the USA.
