and at that price point they come with at least 32 GB of RAM which can be upgraded, swappable SSDs with more capacity than the macbook’s, far better keyboard and more ports.
the Macbooks do have some extra performance per battery usage? yeah I guess. But after 2 years that the battery life is gone, you’ll probably be buying the newer model or wishing that you bought a laptop with a replaceable battery.

Do you realise how hypocritical this is? Using the fediverse is effectively using XMPP in this analogy.
Just compare the 100 million users of Threads vs the 1.5 million MAU of the fediverse.
Threads is the corporate-backed proprietary service (Google talk) and the fediverse is the small network of federated servers hosted mainly by volunteers (XMPP).
By using the Fediverse you are already explicitly choosing not to use Facebook or X or Reddit.
By using XMPP you were explicitly not choosing Google Talk or Facebook Messenger. How is this any different?

XMPP users said the same about XMPP. And it was true, to a certain extent. The federated XMPP network is alive to this day, I’m in a few chat rooms and have a few contacts there.

you’re not wrong. Google just announced Gemini Nano that will run directly on the Pixel 8. Of course, it’s the first of it’s kind and will probably be slow and it’s not used as autocorrect yet. But just give it one year or two and it will probably be more common.
LLMs are orders of magnitude more sophisticated and expensive to run. But don’t worry, I’m sure not so far in the future we will see smaller LLMs being run on device to be used as autocorrect.
