I think the worry of large layoffs and instability while idiots try to use AI instead of people is founded even if it’ll end in disaster.

2·5 months agoMan it’s been a long time but essentially 98 was the first one to allow for plug and play without drivers if I’m remembering right. That and a few other stability issues made the original crash constantly, including during the demo at a tech show. They re-released it as a second edition that fixed most of it. If you bought the computer towards 1999 they had fixed it.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•A Utah city is removing raised traffic-calming measures on a busy road after backlash from residentsEnglish
43·6 months agoAs the city redesigned 1200 West to better connect State Route 252 with communities in the southern end of Cache Valley, officials installed a protected bike lane, enhanced pedestrian crossings and curves in the road to slow traffic. They also put in raised concrete slabs at intersections to force drivers into slower, wider turns.
Not surprising, everyone says they want safer roads but won’t give up the F350 to haul their larded ass around or drive even slightly slower…

Wife and I just bought them last year. Thankfully haven’t needed them but glad to have them if we do!
They also make airbag vests with built in neck protection, if anyone rides studies are showing an 89% reduction in cervical spine injuries, they are worth every penny!

This is such a nothing statement from Microsoft. I mean good on them for asking LG to remove the adware for Mcafee specifically but they don’t say anything about keeping this stuff from other auto-installed apps or making the apps ask for user permission (let alone not enabling this bullshit by default).
