as far as i can tell this only accounts for games on steam, which means massive games like fortnite, valorant, league of legends and genshin impact are excluded. also for some reason apex legends is rated as silver on protondb despite very much not working on linux? so i guess at least one of the silvers in the top 10 chart should be downgraded to not working

the problem is that the way version numbers are handled now, it’s more like 1.MAJOR.MINOR, with no real definition of what counts as a “minor” update, so it’s hard to tell which versions are compatible. i feel like this problem would mostly go away if they either added another number to the version to signify patches, or actually used semver properly (they could mix these approaches to do something similar to java, so the next version would be 22.0.0)

i feel like this whole version debacle is only gonna get worse because microsoft is planning to move to a “content drop” model, with smaller more frequent updates, which means even more pressure on the “patch” version. so unless their update model or versioning systen changes, we’ll probably be playing 1.21.37 in a couple of years, and good luck figuring out which of those versions are actually compatible

i wonder how these numbers change if you weight by active players. like sure, Shooty Guns 2 (2008) running on linux is a good thing, but if it has a grand total of 5 people in the world playing it, it won’t really do much for linux adoption as long as games like league of legends, apex legends and fortnite still don’t work

(for the record i don’t play any of those games and i’ve been happily daily-driving linux with no windows intervention for the last 4 year)

that’s basically just co2, since (iirc) the panic from not being able to breathe comes from high co2 levels the blood, rather than low oxygen levels in the blood. this is also why simple asphyxiants like nitrogen gas are still very dangerous, because you might not notice that you’re not getting any oxygen, especially since your ability to think is probably also impaired because of said low oxygen.

so if you wanna make yourself anxious for funsies, then you can just breathe a bunch of co2 (but also don’t because you might die, and even if you don’t, elevated co2 levels are still pretty bad for you)

the monkey paw in question is intellectual property law. everytime a case is ruled in favor of ip law it becomes slightly more restrictive, which generally benefits corporations more than the public. every time you cheer for ip law to be enforced in some big landmark case, you’re invariably rooting for the noose around our necks to get just a bit tighter.
it’s for this reason that, despite really not liking ai stuff, i think openai and meta being fined for training on “stolen” work will inevitably do more harm than good

afaik denmark isn’t just in favor, but they’re also responsible for pushing the legislation higher on the agenda after it was dropped last time.
i think it’s because the current ruling coalition consists of the “social democrat party” (actually just red flavored populist centerish party) in an alliance with the “moderate party” (centrist flavored center-right wing party) and the liberal (as in libertarianism) party (center-right/right/conservative party), so basically denmark has been under a quite conservative government lately, despite the PM selling the coalition as “across the center”

i think the argument here is more that saying “you can use this however you like, no questions asked” is a bad idea because it allows corporations to approriate the work

the problem is that you don’t need 20 people for this kind of thing. you can just kinda passively slurp the data up from every router and throw it into a machine learning model to be used by cops or sold to advertisers. you don’t need a human in the loop anywhere and it’s essentially impossible to opt out of

if you just care about listening to mp3s across all your devices then navidrome is a good choice imo. because it supports the subsonic api, there are a lot of good players for it like feishin for desktop and dsub for android and a built-in web player.

as for sharing music, soulseek is already pretty established for this. it basically allows you to search for and download music from anyone on the network (remember to share some yourself, it’s good manners).

the setup i use is basically a server (all these programs are pretty light, so you can probably run it on a spare laptop or even a raspberry pi) with:

• slskd as a constantly running soulseek client, allowing me to download music to my server through the built-in web interface
• beets, to automatically tag any music i download, based on information from musicbrainz. you can configure slskd to run commands when downloads finish, so i just run beets to import any new music
• navidrome as the server to actually serve all the music

the only real gripe i have with this setup is that while navidrome has support for multiple users, so i can easily allow friends to listen to my music collection, slskd doesn’t have that (yet, it’s planned), so if someone wants music added to the server they have to ask me to download it through slskd, which is a bit tedious. it works really well if you’re the only person using it though

i’m curious, what exactly is the advantage of getting a dumbphone vs just uninstalling social media apps from your existing phone, or just disabling internet access all together? doesn’t that achieve pretty much the same thing while still being able to keep things like navigation and being able to see when public transport is delayed

you can appreciate her cracking skills and still hate her for everything else she does, like running a cult and refusing to tell anyone else how to crack denuvo, even though she literally makes zero money off it so she’s literally just keeping it secret for clout (presumably to fuel the whole telegram cult thing)
